Re: What old unique saying can you remember?

@Sassycoco,

Those are very unusual!

I've got to say I've never heard of most of those.

Where was your granny from if you don't mind telling?

One of my grandmothers said she "felt more like herself then she did before."

And instead of slang words she just said "Words!" She thought that covered them all.

I never liked when she said she "had a bone to pick with me." Then I knew I was in trouble.

Re: What old unique saying can you remember?

Heard my great aunt say "well, I swanny" and "I declare".

She was born in 1901 and never utter a profane word.

I don't know what it means but I sure do remember these expressions. 🥹🥰

@SloopJohnB,

Never heard this either! What does it mean?

I remember in the movie Sweet Dreams Patsy Cline's mother said to her:  It's a hard bed you made...which I guess is akin to You made your bed, now lie in it.

I've also heard "You bought the bicycle,  now ride it", which may be regional.

@on the bay   My dad used to say it.  It is kind of a nonsense question....like when the conversation is getting too serious or something & you try to change the subject or lighten the mood.

@OKPrincess

I had a grandma that was the same way.

She always said:  Well, I'll swanny or I'll swanny to my goodness lol.

I think swanny might have been a replacement for the word swear, but I could be wrong.
