@Mominohio, I have none of those things either. Well, I have a dishwasher but use it once a year to be sure it still works, and I have A/C but use it a handful of days each year when humidity is oppressive; I don't mind heat. I love to live simply - and to have low monthly bills! What a pleasure to have a few things still around the house that require no electricity - open windows and shades, open and close doors, plumbing, for example.

I think back to what my great grandparents had available to them, when they married in about 1905, and compare that with all we have in conveniences (or some people consider necessities) today.
Some of the things we don't have and never miss.
Ice maker in the fridge (no water or ice in the door either)
Dishwasher
Texting or internet on the cell phones
No 'i' anything. No ipad or iphone or ipod
Air conditioning in the house (and never had it in the car until my son was born in 1996)
DVR or any other way to record television
I'm sure there is more that other's responses will make me remember.
What things considered modern conveniences or modern necessities do you live without (either by choice or for financial reasons)?
I really doubt many would call that era "the good old days" .... if you wish to do without some of the enhancements of modern life, that's great, but it hardly gives anyone brownie points.
Living in Southern California, I rely on Air conditioning, my Microwave oven (to keep the kitchen cool) and my DVR.
What do I feel I don't need? A smart phone, since my laptop goes everywhere with me, and the ice maker in the fridge door. Don't need them, but I reserve the right to change my mind at any time .... lol.

Cell phone - have it, it's not a smartphone though, seldom use it - guess it's out of habit: years ago, before cellphones became popular, company I worked for got us very good deals on them 'cause they encouraged us to have them.
Got a dvr - not hooked up. blue something, again, never used. Have window a/c - always hated a/c, prefer to leave windows open; but, my Jade, who was from Puerto Rico, hated the heat and loved the cold - go figure! Now my Shadow-Jaden can benefit from them, but he seems not to really mind the heat - he's from NYC and doesn't seem to mind the cold weather, too.
Dishwasher, microwave and ice maker - yeah, could live without them, but wouldn't like living without them

I don't need a dishwasher as it would take more time to load and unload it than it would to just real wash them! I only drove an automatic with my first car over 40 years ago but prefer 6 speeds and will not drive an automatic anymore.

I have a cell phone but not a smartphone. I don't have a dishwasher but would kill for one (teeny tiny kitchen). I don't have the ice & water in the fridge. Everybody's that I've ever had tastes funny and stale.

No fancy cable... Just basic. No DVR or anything. No Alarm system....just my dog. Use fan when it is hot...no air conditioning. Definitely not a smart house.....just a regular dumb house.
I do have internet.... I guess other than TV those sare the two things I could never live without.....oh, and power.....love my electricity!
