Re: What is it with Hollywood dads and their nannies?

@Plaid Pants2  i'm certainly no man hater, quite the opposite.  i've just learned from experience and seen these men and women in action.  this is just my opinion and i stand by it because i've seen it over and over again.

Re: What is it with Hollywood dads and their nannies?

I don't think it's just Hollywood, it can happen anytime a relationship is off track and the connection once shared is lost. Some marriages don't start with that connection, so it is easy to go astray. Other marriages start with it and lose it. Marriages between two people who work at keeping their relationship vibrant and alive have less to fear from a nanny's encroachment than most. When the nanny thing happens, it speaks volumes to me about the state of the marital relationship.

I don't think that Hollywood dads hook up with nannies anymore than the regular public does. I have several friends whose husbands started affairs with the girls who took care of their children.

This isn't a new phenomenon or a Hollywood one. 130+ years ago in Victorian times the head of the household and the nanny were not an unusual Thing. Back then many women died young from childbirth or disease, so many men later married the nanny.

My Great Grandfather married the housekeeper when his wife died and he was left with a young child in the late 1800's.

During a tv interview, Steve Harvey was asked by a woman in the audience why do men cheat.  His simple response was that it was because there are willing women.  So the message is that if the supply dried up, men wouldn't cheat.  With the nanny or anyone else.

Interesting discussion everyone! proudlyfromNJ - to me this was a more common situation in those days, and it probably happens today too! If the parties involved are SINGLE, I can understand it.

When I taught in Japan there was an American professor in Tokyo - single, nice looking, in his 40's, who adopted a Japanese orphan. He hired a nanny/housekeeper. The boy was in my class. I will never forget him! His nanny spoke very little English, but she was kind and seemed to understand more than she spoke. We saw her every day when she would drop him off and pick him up.  She wasn't young - probably in her early 40's too. One day while we were all outside, we noticed she was looking a little different. She was wearing makeup and had started paying a lot of attention to her hair and dress. Her smile seemed bigger too. So of course we all wondered what was going on! A while later one day she showed up with a wedding ring on, and the next time we saw him, he had one on too. He never said anything, and of course we didn't ask, but we did have fun putting two and two together! Smiley Wink

Of course it's the women's fault--being willing.  So, the answer is that men won't cheat if we get rid of all the women!!!

So right, she was (is) not attractive AT ALL!  Go figure.

Perhaps she was just very...er..."skilled."  That supposedly was the deal with Wallis Warfield Simpson, who caused Edward VIII to abdicate the throne to marry irresistible Wallis, who wasn't very attractive

Actually, the first celebrity nanny scandal I remember (besides Robin Williams') was Jude Law cheating on his wife with the nanny. But that was over in England, not Hollywood.

@Plaid Pants2  a nanny wouldn't bother me and wouldn't make my dh break his vows.  but there is no question in my mind that if an innocent man becomes the target of a conniving woman, his goose is almost cooked.

naturally there are probably some weaknesses in the marriage, then again, maybe not, but women imo can be great predators and these families can be really innocent victims (bystanders) when a nanny makes up her mind.

i think this has been proven in history over and over again.  men need to be stroked and if the wife is not there or preoccupied, these gals are happy to step in.

to say that could never happen to me by anyone imo, is utter foolishess.  always be on your toes!

I completely agree!!!  I always tell my husband that regardless of how much he loves me and we love each other, when it comes to other people working for us we need to be vigilant. My husband tells me when the subject comes that that since I happen to be more attractive than him, he will never stray but mama didn't raise no fool!

Most of my friends and best friends have always been male and they have confided in me that the number one reason men cheat is due to the excitement of someone new. Looks factor in but the thrill and newness of the unknown and yet to be discovered weighs heavily on them. Therefore, the fight is really against the unknown and the 'new'. They may still love you and are attracted by you but you are old news. LOL.

So, regardless of who it is, if you are a woman and my husband is still a man, I'm keeping my eyes on you!!! LOL. My motto is always never underestimate anyone. Better safe than sorry!!!
