Re: What is going on with Amazon?

That funny because my friend came over a while ago.  She was having trouble logging into the SSA website.  It said her password was incorrect, she said she changed it in January.  Apparently, they added some characters too.  She had the password written down in big letters.  She swears it's correct but I got the same thing when I tried.  So, I had her sign on with her OLD password, the one they made her change in January...and that worked.  The odd thing is, she said she used the newer one in March and it worked just fine.

Re: What is going on with Amazon?

@chrystaltree, the SSA has flip-flopped on their "new" sign-in extra security step.

They had said they were going to set up two-step ID where they would email or text you the second code needed to sign in, and I think there may have been something about a new password, not sure. I never did any of it. About 2 months later, the SSA said oops never mind and apparently left things as they had been. So that may be why the old password worked, and the "new" one she created in the short window the SSA had it set up no longer did.

Re: What is going on with Amazon?

For what this is worth...my Internet security guys told me to sign out of every website every time!!  They/he stated that some one looking for hacking opportunity will find it easier to get in through an open sign in/password!

Am not sure that I totally understand, I am no computer whiz!!  But I do sign out every time and do not allow websites to "remember" my passwords!!!  I figure it is only one more step for me to take and if it makes it harder for someone to hack my info, then all the better!!!

Re: What is going on with Amazon?

I was just on my SSA account the other day and what I encountered was that you have to make a new password every six months.  I hadn't been there for a while, so mine aged out and I had to create a new password, plus they had some new password requirements (e.g. one cap letter, one number, and one symbol, IIRC).

Tht seems like a really good idea!  Sometimes I can be lazy and just close the window, instead of logging out first.   I always log out to important stuff like my bank accounts, etc, but I think it's a good idea to log out of anything you access that uses a pw.

Maybe that's what they ended up deciding to do, after the disaster that was their 2-ID sign-in that lasted a couple of months and then went buh-byee.

I can see this applying on a work computer or a public computer, or when using any wi-fi not at your house.

But if your home wi-fi is protected and no one uses your computer or tablet but you, I'm not seeing an urgency towards paranoia. No doubt anything could be possible, but the likelihood in your own home with protected wi-fi and you the only user..I'm not worried about it.
