The photos of the armed protesters in the Michigan capital were frightening. I found it stunning that some "higher ups" in the Federal government praised their actions.
These were the same people that ranted and raged when some NFL players took a knee in protest during the National Anthem.
It is all about "rights" if it falls in with your beliefs but heaven help you if it is about an opposing view.
The hypocrisy is staggering.
Other countries must watch us in shock and disbelief.

I don't believe you are for real.
You just can't be.
I think you are just throwing things out there to get people mad and upset.
Any contradictory, ignorant opinion will do.
The same goes for anyone "applauding" anyone who dresses up like a child at Halloween except with real guns bigger than them.
Absolutely insane.
What in the world happened to make people in our country turn out like this. People protesting their freedom being taken away, yet in reality they are taking it away from everyone they come across. They are destroying the freedom from fear, because they hope to induce fear.

Mersha,
The full column in The Irish Times, from which I excerpted the several paragraphs I posted previously on this thread, will break your heart.
As the columnist wrote, for the first time, the rest of the world "pities" the United States in its present state of chaos and rudderlessness -- not a feeling others have ever felt toward our nation.

Can you imagine any other nation on earth telling its states to get their own supplies? While they are begging on TV for assistance, repeatedly saying they are biding against other states.
It really reminds me of the response after Katrina, with those poor people just stranded on the bridge. Reporters crying on TV, saying this isn't a foreign third world country, this is America.
The mindset is staggering.

I wonder how long it is before some come up with some excuse or minimizing the new challenge that Covid-19 is anything but a respiratory disease.
A record number of these patients are requiring dialysis due to kidney failure. There is a shortage of hemodialysis units in many areas so they are having to use peritoneal dialysis as a second choice until they have a hemodialysis unit available.
Previously healthy 40 year olds are having strokes, heart attacks, or requiring amputations with conditions that are directly associated with Covid-19. We are just now starting to see some of the patients that have been seriously ill with significant respiratory compromise post discharge.
I think anyone would be hard pressed to get any nurse or doctor that has actually worked with Covid-19 patients in areas where they have had multiple cases to say it isn't all that bad. Most of them are overwhelmed and saying they have never, ever seen anything like this. And groups are calling for special mental health services to be available for our health care professionals that have worked with Covid-19 patients.

@Mersha, I have said if someone wants to douse themself with gasoline and set themself on fire, might not be something I want to see...but go ahead.
But your rights do not supercede my rights. And when your actions have the all too real possibility of putting me or one of my loved ones in the hospital fighting to live, you had better back off. You do not have the right to take my life or the life of someone I love.
Goes against everything I think this country stands for. Veterans in war will tell you they fight more for the person next to them, than for themself.
Wonder if any of these protestors could even begin to imagine throwing themself on a grenade to save the lives of their commarades like so many soliders in WWII or the Vietnam War did. I think not.

I haven't divulged this yet, but two people, a couple I know somewhat well, are now home from several weeks in the hospital, recuperating from their coronavirus infection.
The husband was intubated and the wife almost intubated. As she told me, they "were in grave danger." He was in intensive care while she was placed in intermediate care not long after being admitted to the hospital.
Thank heavens, both are home now but they must be on oxygen. Their infectious disease doctor told them it will take a month for each of them to return to the health they enjoyed before becoming ill.
Her email really shook me up.
ETA: No one has the right to expose others to this horrific virus, even if unwittingly. No one. It is unconscionable to to want to satisfy a selfish desire such as getting a haircut when your act can endanger the lives of others.

@golding76, I am so sorry to hear about your friends, but certainly glad they are alive and back home!
We had a 42 year old man die in our state today. I am not supposed to know, but since I know people working that unit....he was a healthy guy with no underlying conditions. Very healthy and ran mini-marathons.
We have young healthy mothers that presented to the hospital with symptoms in which they had to do emergency C-sections to deliver the baby. Some of those mothers made it, but other mothers did not survive. How heartbreaking that there are now newborns that don't have their mother because of this horrendous disease.
And of course, those pregnant moms caught it from someone else.
