Heartily recommend using online books. Cloud Library app happens to be the one my local library is on...as taxpayer, the app usage is part of my " library card. "
A few years back, DH was undergoing serious heart issues. I started to read Connelly then and his books got me through those very difficult times. DH at 82 is doing well with following protocols for his heart issues.
The Scarecrow isn't one of his best stories but it gives a great look at data storage environment and how it can be used / abused. For that reason, I recommend it based on your original post.
Lots of good reading ahead for you. Don't worry about reading it all in sequential order...not necessary.

Thanks @jlkz ![]()
Appreciate this & esp you coming back.
I just might come back at cha if stuck about online books. My former local library has some online sources, for books, videos, audio, I believe, but you sound really experienced! ![]()

Just paying back a favor: someone here on the boards pointed me in the right direction to get started with ebooks.
Suggestion:
It's a great idea to keep a list by authors and their books read all alphabetically. It'll keep you from getting a book you already have read. Too, folks always ask for recommendations, so I keep the end column for the "X's" that weren't very good.

@Meadowgirl wrote:BitCoin is extremely energy extensive to "mine". There is a mining facility in my area. Using natural gas to manufacture electricity to run the computers that "mine" bitcoin and power the fans that keep the computers cool produces insane amounts of greenhouse gas. The mining facility is very very noisy; the noise from the fans can be heard over a mile away and the facility runs 24 hours a day. The amount of electricity to run the facility surpasses the amount of electricity used by every house in our town. A very wasteful use of our precious resources for the benefit of a few wealthy individuals.

Wow! @Meadowgirl
If this is how it's going, this info needs to be widely proliferated, clearly, & fully explained, & doubled back on, making sure to have been understood clearly by everybody, (esp/incl our Youth)!

I went to an informational meeting last night run by those in our neighborhood who are fighting this facility, It was explained to us that from January 2024 to Sepetember 2024 this facility used enough natural gas to power 165,000 HOMES Our city has 31,000 RESIDENTS. The facility uses an astounding amount of natural gas! The natural gas usage number were provided by environmental groups in our area. Believe me we invite the media to our common council meetings and use social media to get the word out. I live in New York state and the state has an ambitious plan to cut greenhouse gas emmisions by eliminating gas stoves, furnaces,hot water heaters etc in homes. How this bitcoin mining facility was able to establish itself in our area is baffling! Google bit coin mining in Western New York and you will be astounded by the environmental impact these facilities produce. Niagara Falls, North Tonawanda and Buffalo NY all have mining going on. Very sad.

I know three things about it:
1 - I don't know enough to get involved in it and have no desire to;
2 - My nephew invested a six figure inheritance in it and lost every penny; and
3 - I'm afraid it's going to crash the stock market with reckless individuals pushing it from the top.
Not helpful, and I fully admit that my fears re: #3 may be unfounded, but that's how I feel about crypto. People used to be afraid to eat tomatoes so I could be all wrong but at my age, I don't care.
