@dooBdoo When I said "pounding" I meant the keyboard : D
I disagree one thousand fold with you re. posters feeling threatened. Discussion often gets heated and ends up in squabbles because posters feel their POVs are threatened.

@orangegarnet wrote:@MaggieMack, I agree.. I am very concerned about the poofing of threads being poofed.. Sorry to the OP of that thread, I mentioned ice cream and it was actually fun...
@I miss @Kenyai also...
Agreed... The seemingly precipitous poofing of what was nothing more than a handful of harmless, humorous posts felt uneven, unnecessary, a bit humorless and frankly a bit arrogant... There was no discussion of political or religious subject matter and while there was a tad of sarcasm involved, 'the standards' would not appear to have been violated... The actions felt unduly harsh.
You cannot blame the moderators. It's the posters who insist on pounding the Report Inappropriate feature whenever they feel the slightest bit threatened.
Really??? People would actually choose the Report Inappropriate option on a bit of harmless, lighthearted fun? It was my thread, well, I srarted the thread, and the O/T fun didn't bother me at all. I guess I better get my head out of the cotton candy clouds.
Someone gets offended and reports the post/thread : (
Clearly, sometimes that occurs and also it's clear we have no idea if someone does report or, if so, who or why.
I'm wondering if posters would prefer we not have a method of reporting posts/threads (other than email messages). Most forums (maybe all forums) have that feature.

Ah! Got it! We do pound away sometimes, don't we?
You're probably right, some people don't like it when their point of view is challenged. There's no real remedy for that, as far as I can see.

At least it keeps the moderators employed.

@Wayne-QVC, ha ha ha ha! After the wide swath you cut yesterday, I think you did some collateral damage to your Community Chat reputation. But, I can get along with anyone so I'm sure I can get along with you. Maybe even like you some day.
Plus, I have a brother named Wayne so I sorta hafta be nice.
Isn't THAT the truth...
ITA! FYI, I was BANNED for 2 hours yesterday for a comment that I made to another poster, but my comment was allowed to stand. Wayne-QVC stated that my comment caused a disturbance; when I came back on and read all of the subsequent posts, there was no disturbance. Isn't this all fascinating.

Banned for 2 hours? Interesting.

@Lovethesea, Is your post still there? It helps when we can see what was considered inappropriate or a violation, since perception is so important. Just as on another thread, when someone protested their pic wasn't a violation -- unless we've seen it, it's hard to have a valid opinion.
In general, we're none of us innocent victims here, in my opinion, and I still think we need to take responsibility for our own actions instead of trying to foist the onus onto others. Maybe everyone needs to spend a month moderating a forum owned by/representing a corporation, and then our views might change a wee bit.

I feel I have to weigh in here...I may have had a part in getting Maggie's thread poofed, but I'm not quite sure how. Most of my attempts at some lightheartedness were directly related to "poofing." I think, as someone alluded to downthread, that it's nearly impossible not to go "off-topic" here and there, now and then.
Someone posted that you couldn't even discuss vanilla without going off-topic or without having disagreements. A post I thought was quite correct and funny. So, I responded that vanilla was superior to chocolate, just sayin', which ok I thought was funny, but which I get that others may not have thought so or maybe didn't catch the drift.
One of my posts had a link to an article/debate from bing about vanilla ice cream being superior to chocolate...said post was immediately poofed, which I actually agreed with...althooooooooooo, why are some links allowed and others are not??
For me, the whole thing boils down to not knowing the nuances of what is acceptable and what is not, all their guidelines notwithstanding.
Anyway, I hope orangegarnet saw my post to her about the turkey leg...I was LMBO (vanilla ice cream dribbling down my chin!), which laughter I sorely needed because all the insanity in the world is bringing me down...I really have to be careful of despair.
Finally, my humble apologies to Maggie if I did or said anything (at any time) to hurt your feelings or anger you. You are one of my favorite posters!
Back to work...carry on.
