We are prepers (spelling?) by nature.  We were raised to believe this --do not to count on anyone else for your survival.  My (much older) parents and grandparents lived through wars, survived the depression and lived off the land (grew up on a farm).  We were raised that way. Even in worst of times, our faith also carries us.

Although I am taking this seriously, I'm not panicking.  I do see some good things coming out of this virus.  People will be more self-sufficient, break our dependence on China, maybe US companies will set up shop again in the USA or new companies will emerge to meet the demand.

Just yesterday, Procter & Gamble said to expect a supply chain break on 17,000 products where they rely on some way on China.  Seriously 17,000 products.  I didn't read the full article but it was on Zero Hedge if anyone is interested.

What I think is that the virus will eventually show up in the US, and will be problematic for our medical providers and health system.   However, I think stronger infection control measures and practices would be seen with the virus here in the US.

I also think healthy people will contract this virus and survive.  My husband and daughters have asthma and COPD, so I would be quite concerned if they were exposed, or contracted the virus.   My youngest daughter contracted swine flu when it was active years ago, and her asthma is a result of damage from that respiratory infection.   I would be very concerned about our elderly population.

No, I am not buying anything extra to prepare for potential problems.   As far as food and supplies, I am always well stocked and sustainable for months at a time.   If my family had to be quarantined for a full month, we probably wouldn’t need anything.

I'll stay alert and have my usual extra stuff on hand during winter flu and virus season. Doc said spring allergies coming early this year in the Midwest so off to Costco tomorrow for flonaise. I am questioning a late May trip to Dublin -- holding back on making definitive plans, but I want to be smart.

CNBC is reporting, as of about an hour or so ago, that California is monitoring 8,400 people for the virus.  8,400. That's a big deal.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

I did buy 4 N95 masks from Amazon this week.  My local news had a story and the conclusion was that N95 masks DID work in preventing the spread but the other masks (thin kind that you use when you're painting your walls or mowing your grass) did not.  They showed local stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) and said they were all sold out of the N95 masks.  I got online that night and ordered 4 from Amazon.  Better safe than sorry.  They weren't that expensive and they are the reusable kind.

Want to pick up some canned fruit because fresh fruit is one thing I go into town for each week.  Our gas station's convenience store would have milk, eggs, bread and some fresh vegetables so I'm sure we would manage.

@AuntG -if suppliers were delivering.

Another puzzling case out of China. Five family members came down with the virus from a visitor to their home but the visitor did/does not have the virus!

It could be that the person was just a carrier of the virus, or, the virus has/had mutated.

Or more likely, they had an active, transmissible case, but hadn't developed symptoms yet.
