I want to be a role model for the kids, and I want the parents to respect who I am, since I am around their kids so much. So, yes, I refrain from being seen certain places or doing things that might not reflect well on me. Not that this is a big adjustment for me. But, for example, I probably wouldn't be seen partying into the late hours downtown at one of the festivals. I'm not fake, I just take my job and my reputation seriously in the community, and I want it to remain that way. So I think you cannot make a blanket generalization about this quote.
I think it is all in how you read it and no one should be condescending to each other. We all see things or "take" words differently. I agree....and I don't think you are fake. No one should say that.
Some of these quotes are not worded very well and are for setting up differing opinions as others have noted. No one who agreed or disagreed with this should be made to feel badly. or "wrong". That is unkind to even insinuate and I am sorry if anyone took my post that way. It was not intended to hurt anyone.

I was just stating my personal view, and there wasn't a bit of negativity in my thoughts. Oh, good. Thank you for letting me know. I just wanted to make sure.

Hmm...I do not agree with this quote. Yes fake people create a fake image...but that does not mean if you are real you do not care about your image. I think image is important to an extent....doesn't mean you have to fake the image.

But i am who I am, so what people see is both my image AND ME..
Not everyone's "image" is disingenuous, or untrue to themselves..
My image, that people see of me, is ACTUALLY me..it would be too difficult to survive otherwise....
The original post assumes that people try to project an "image" which is not their own personality... not always so

I think real people don't get hung up on being something they're not. We've all probably known someone who maintained a certain image and then we found out they weren't who they portrayed.
