Re: What do you do if you're tired, but can't sleep?

Watch TV using the Sleep Timer function.

Also, sometimes I'm hungry, so I make a peanut butter sandwich on wheat bread.

I wait a half hour watching TV, then I seem to fall asleep very quickly.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

@Tinkrbl44   I like to read in bed but lighting is really bad in the bedroom.  Do you have a book light that you use?

I need to find something to attach to my book, as I have trouble sleeping and would be happy to open my book to read....if I am sleeping in the spare room I don't have to worry about waking my husband but if I am sleeping in the master bedroom, I need a book light.

thanks.

Honestly, sometimes it helps if I have a snack. We ate early today.......before 5pm.......and I'm up sometimes until after midnight.

Very true @cindyNC. I discovered it was often hunger or thirst that was the issue. I no longer eat after 6pm, but if I can't sleep, I'll have a small glass of milk.

@Mom2Dogs

I think you are reading with a lamp on, which can be disruptive for the other sleeper.

I use a small desk lamp with a spotlight and an adjustable head.  The arm of the lamp can rotate 360 degrees.  That way, the spotlight can be directed to the book.  They aren't too bright or glaring for my eyes.

Stores like Ikea and better have a lot of them and I even saw a couple on HSN.  Mine has an electric cord, but my next one will be rechargeable.  Even more flexibility with placement.

I read in bed every night of my life and it took me a while to find the right reading light.

If you have any questions if you decide to get this type of lighting, feel free to ask questions.  I was a bit nit-picky with the spotlight search, but what I got really works for me ... and doesn't bother anyone else.

@beckyb1012  I also listen to ASMR on YouTube! My favorites are Gentle Whispering ASMR, TingTing ASMR, and Southern ASMR Sounds. I'm going to investigate the channel you named. Thank you!

Re: What do you do if you're tired, but can't sleep?

if I can't sleep after about 10 minutes or so, I get up and watch t.v. for a while.  Nothing stimulating, but a silly old show.  I might eat a little bit of yogurt or a couple of crackers.  Then I go to bed again and try to think of the show I just watched and try to think of past pleasant experiences, such as a fun gathering with family members or a vacation that I particularly enjoyed.  Anything to distract me.

I fogot to mention in my post.... I like brown noise. I keep the sound very low and it helps keep racing thoughts away.

I used to turn on QVC with the volume very, very low.  It would lull me to sleep.  But not any more. The hosts are too frenetic.

Re: What do you do if you're tired, but can't sleep?

After awhile I'll go to the living room and turn on the TV with the sound down low and no other lights on.  There have been some rare occasions where I've had the TV on for almost two hours.  I'll also pick up my phone and scroll thru FB & IG, etc.  If all else fails, I'll go find something in the fridge and eat it.
