This thread has brought a smile to my face.  Most of us don't look at these activities as ancient, but some of our kids or grandkids would!  I can and do:

Tend to livestock

Milk goats

Make simple goat cheese

Grow a garden

Do simple canning

Give basic haircuts

Keep a written budget on paper (28 years and counting...)

Hand write a thank you note

Sew and mend

Say "You did well", rather than "You did good"

...and like another poster, I also prefer to read real copies of books

Sitting across a table from someone, giving them eye contact and having an actual conversation!!! Smiling and speaking to people I don't know, expressing concern for fellow man. People have lost the ancient art of face to face conversation. No wonder our young adults...mine included...don't know what to talk about.

Ancient skills?  Not so sure these are considered ancient, but here goes.

Made clothing patterns and sewed almost all my clothes once upon a time (including coats). Crochet, knit and weave.  Can draw, paint (oils, pastels, etc).  Fairly good at wood carving. Laid floor tiles and wood flooring, papered walls, assembled some furniture, reupholstered furniture.  Used Pittman Shorthand.  Catalogued books in school library.

Canning is really not that complicated, but can be hard work if you grow your food too, and can a lot. It's more about hot work and on your feet a lot of hours than complicated processes.

I didn't start until my mid 30's, and no one in my family (during my lifetime) was still doing it, even though everyone but my mother had done it in their younger days.

My husband taught me, then I got a Ball Blue Book and simply followed the directions.

It is very satisfying to grow and put up your own food. A real sense of empowerment, knowing you can provide your own food, without a lot of money or relying on others.
