The biggest risk for my 85 year old mother is thru what is carried in to her home environment. She is not out and about to pick up anything. Her exposure would be thru us kids and grandkids, her newspaper and mail, grocery items, or other visitors.

No cleaning product exists that kills virus. Antibacteria kills most bacteria. Using normal cleaning products will suffice.

I try never to be out of 70% isopropyl alcohol, clorox wipes and bleach.
70% isopropyl alcohol is most commonly used disinfectant in pharmaceutical industries. The important thing is that only 70% solution of isopropyl alcohol acts as a disinfectant killing all surface microorganisms. It is used to disinfect hands and equipment surface in pharmaceuticals.
A 70% solution of alcohol takes more time in evaporation from the surface, therefore increasing surface contact time and enhancing effectiveness.

@RedTop The CDC and infectious disease specialists have said there is no risk of this virus being transmitted via a box or mail even if boxes are sent from China. If one is suspicious of purchasing items from China best stay away from most stores especially Walmart. Many more people in this country are dying from the flu. So far one person in the US has died from this virus. People get a grip. Mass hysteria is not helpful.

Stress makes a person more susceptible to illness. Many people will get this virus, have no symptoms and recover unaware they were ever infected.

The last I read was that a higher percentage of men are dying than women and most at risk are over 70 and those with underlying medical issues like diabetes.
Alcohol is effective but not 91%. Use 70% because higher concentrations evaporate too fast and that will leave behind viable microbes. Apply a fair amount of 70% alcohol and let dry down slowly, do not fan it. This is to make sure the alcohol dissolves the protective coatings found around microbes which leads to their demise.

A 10% bleach solution is a very effective disinfectant. But be aware that once you make the solution it will only be good for a day. You need to make it fresh daily. Always store bleach in it's original opaque container. Light destroys bleach's disinfecting effects quickly.

Lysol wipes. Homemade I use some vinegar and water. Or else I use part water and a bit of lemon. I always use gloves. All these dry out the hands.
