Hubby and I had our Thanksgiving dinner with his girlfriend's family today, and to the surprise of NO ONE, they announced their engagement. We all laughed and clapped and hugged and kissed and gave them our heart-felt best wishes for a wonderful marriage.

We knew this was coming and it didn't at all take away from our happiness for them. We had met her family just once before so we're all getting to know each other. Her family seems like a really wonderful bunch and they're very warm and inclusive. I'm both happy and apprehensive--not about them getting married but about working out the wedding details. I'm sure we'll get through it ok, and I've already promised myself to be as helpful as possible and to recognize when and where to "butt out". And to remember the saying, If you want to get along, go along.

If all you mothers-in-law have advice for me, please sing it out; I'm listening!
