My DH received a Dunkin Donuts gift card for his birthday from his nephew (Godchild) who is 32. It was marked $50.00 which DH and I thought was very generous and out of sync with what he usually does. We thought perhaps that since it was a special b'day for my DH that was the reason. My DH thanked his nephew profusely when he called him.
He went to use the card yesterday and there was no $$ on it. He assumed there had been a mistake so tried it again at another DD store....nope. He called his nephew and reached nephew's Mom who said that my nephew was being a jokster and he did that to his Dad at Christmas. She didn't of course realize that DH got the same joke. I was furious, my DH less so although he didn't think it was funny.
This is a boy/man that we have been very generous to since he was born including taking he and his brother with us on several trips and continuing to give him $$ for Christmas and b'days.
My DH doesn't want to call him since he knows that his sis (nephew's Mom) will relay that message.
I think he should call and tell him how disappointed he is. I also want to cut his b'day check from $200 to $150 and mention that the $50 will go to a DD card.
Perhaps we are both taking this the wrong way and should treat it as a joke. What do you think. This BB has always helped us out when we have had a dilemma
