   I always wanted a sister. I got two younger brothers and we are each five years apart. I did grow up with two girl cousins and we were all born in the same month, same year. It was almost like having sisters. All three of us only had brothers. One cousin passed away three years ago. My 2 weeks younger cousin and I are close and see each other often.

   I was very young when I married and had three daughters, so we are rather close in age. Now that they are grown, it is almost like having sisters. I also have two sons who are younger than the girls. We had a full house.

  @EastCoastGal I am 76, so Toni and Ginny would have been popular dolls when you were little too. Tiny Tears was my baby doll, when I was about 8 or 9 years old. Betsy Wetsy was

popular then, too. Later, I had a Miss Revlon.

   How wonderful it must have been to have a baby sister. I was 11 when my youngest brother was born and I loved taking him places with me.

  What fun it must have been to have a playhouse. I would have loved that. I also played with paperdolls and my daughters had them too. I don't think that little girls today have them.

   Last month, my great grand daughter had her 6th birthday.

I gave her a dress and couple of smaller things. One was a set of Kitty Cucumber paper dolls. ( a Beatrix Potter character)

 It was a little tiger cat with six cute outfits. She loved playing with it and changing the outfits. She never saw paper dolls before.

   Young parents today feel the need to provide the latest and greatest electronics and tablets for very young children. I think

that they would have fun playing with the same simple things that we had and our children had.

  I have always tried to give the grandchildren and now, great grandchildren, books and creative toys.

@Witchy Woman   Thank you so much. I'm glad that I was raising my children in the 60's and 70's. Life seemed simpler, compared to now. They never felt unsafe, playing outside and

they had lots of friends in the neighborhood. Things have changed so much in our society over the past 50 years. Not always for the better.

  All the moms in our neighborhood were home with the children, back then. We all looked out for each other. My  5 children weren't spoiled, but they had all that they needed and most of what they wanted.

  I cooked for them everyday and baked at least once a week. Our life was pretty much like it was when I grew up in the 50's. We always celebrated holidays and I tried to provide fun

activities and special occasions for them and pre-school, I taught them a love of books and reading.

  They all remember how life was back then. My youngest daughter, now 57, thanks me for giving her such a happy childhood.

  The one thing that I taught all five of them from an early age

was "Treat people as you would want to be treated." All five of them grew up to be well mannered, respectful and caring and they all have a great love of animals, since we always had a cat.

I guess we inherited our love for dolls from our mothers.  I also had a Ginette baby doll! You actually reminded me of her and now I wonderful she is somewhere in this house of mine as I don't remember what happened to her.

Thank you for the information on the Vogue company, interesting!!!  It must have been enjoyable collecting the vintage Ginny dolls.  I always remember the clothes for Ginny and Jill were quality and lovely!

@Oznell  Thank you very much. She will be back soon, dressed for a day at the fair. Next month will be Halloween costumes.

@Enufstuff   Maybe I missed a few Toni stories.  But your sewing is so beautiful and I love your Toni stories as well.  

I'm 62 so a little younger and wasn't aware of Toni and Ginny, but we loved our "big" baby dolls and our  Barbies and Dawn dolls.  My dad traveled for work, and many places he traveled to he brought my sister and I paper dolls from his trip.  We got That Girl, Skipper, Barbie, Liddle kiddles, and Midge paper dolls. Loved the paper dolls also. I cannot picture my dad in Kmarts, Grants, Woolworths in the paper doll/coloring book section.....but we were thrilled.  

My grandma, who lived in a different state always sent me the Betsy McCall paper doll page from the monthly McCalls magazine.  Precious memories I have.  

Looking forward to more Toni outfits and stories.  My sister is 2.5 years older than I and she is my best friend.  I'm so blessed to have her in my life.  I'm a middle child, and have a baby brother.

@lynnie61  Thank you very much. Those Dawn dolls were adorable and those tiny clothes were beautiful. My mother bought the Dawn dolls for my girls and they still have them. They are in their 50's now. They also had Barbies, Chrissy and Velvet, The Sunshine Family, Blythe Eyes, Flatsy and Little Kiddles.

  How sweet that your father was so thoughtful and brought paper dolls for you and your sister , when he traveled. My ex never would have thought to buy anything for his five children. I did all the buying and he paid the bills.

 I remember the Betsy McCall paper dolls. I got them from my grandmother's McCalls magazine. When I was 10, I got an 8" Betsy McCall doll. I still have it.

 You are so lucky to have a sister. My brother and I are close, but not the same as having a sister. My three girls are close, just a year between each of them.

It sounds like you have a wonderful family and gave them a great childhood.

I grew up in the same era and, even though we didn't have a lot by today's standards, I have lots of happy memories.  Feeling safe and loved and being able to play outside without worries.

It was not a perfect time, but one I cherish.  It was women like you that made it special.

Your little Toni captures the sweet innocence I wish still existed for all children.
