Lucky charm..you need to read more of the book! The beginning is just about her struggles that led to the hike. The best part of the book is what she learned while out in the wilderness on her own.

Sometimes I don't like some sections of a book, and skim through them, and then get into later sections. I have to do this, being in a book club...have to be able to discuss the book at the next meeting! I come across very few books that don't have some parts that appeal to me. ( there are a few...but that's a subject for another thread)

Also, 37 Houses is a true story? I read some reviews on Amazon and they kept mentioning 'novel'. I can't bring myself to read fiction!!

Lucky charm...yes it's true. I was also confused by the title. One of our book club members is a nurse who has worked with the author, who is also a nurse. An editor suggested that it be called a novel, and Anna changed the names of all the characters, including her own name. But she told our book group that everything she wrote about in the book, did indeed happen.

"A Fighting Chance" by Elizabeth Warren. Her story is VERY interesting. I can see where she gets her strong beliefs from, her childhood. She is a true American success story.

I am working on "The Bully Pulpit" by Doris Kearns Goodwin. It's the history of Teddy Roosevelt, William Howard Taft and the muckraking press. Teddy was our first Progressive leader. It is interesting to see parallels between then and now, a little over 100 years later.

I went for the very first time to the Wilcox Mansion where Teddy was sworn in. It is literally less than half a mile from my home - right down the same street. A house where he had dinner when they thought McKinley was getting better is around the corner. The site where McKinley died is where my son went to high school.

I love history and Goodwin is an excellent author.

I also have 200 pages to read, review and study by next Monday - Life, Health and Disability Insurance Basics. Fun. Wow.

Pines (The Wayward Pines Trilogy 1) by Blake Crouch is excellent. If you like the X-Files, Twin Peaks or along those lines, you will like this.

Jana DeLeon's Miss Fortune series is a nice fun read as far as a mystery series.

i'll have to look for this one. i read devil in the white city and it was long(details) but very good.

i just finished Invisible, by james patterson. good, but it took me a few pages to get into it. worth it, though.

stephanie plum's latest. just fun, easy reading.

i just checked library and they have a dvd of isaac's storm, done by the history channel.

I really enjoyed "The Husband's Secret" by Liane Moriarty.

Right now, I'm reading "The Other Typist" by Suzanne Rindell and I'm loving it. It's very cleverly written. It's different--kind of reminds me of "The Talented Mr. Ripley".
