That is a phrase I don't recall using. What others mean when using it, I will quote Judge Judy. "That would require the operation of their brain". With the passing years I have to work harder at controlling the operation of my own brain.
For me it is the actions of someone that tell me who they are, but the why of those actions I will leave to those trained in that field.
Hearing or reading something someone says about a topic, or other persons, without looking them in the eyes, tells me very little about them. Saying something pales in comparison to them actually doing something reminds me of "talk is cheap".
Now when running my hockey league, I was the Judge/Jury, and Executioner, when it came to every facet of our games. I judged every single player by their skills/their commitment to showing up for most games, and most of all their temperament when playing a "for fun" level of good hockey. Some called me The Dictator, and that pretty much describes how I ran my adult hockey league.

@hckynut Ah! Judge by what they do not what they say! Wise words indeed! I will bet you coached a group of winners who mostly refrained from fighting one another! LOL!!
OR their coach!
What we most often agree on is if you do something, put your all into it and don't whine!

After thinking about this more, I think sometimes "I don't judge" says loud and clear: I think you are wrong and I am right, so I'll let you know that by saying "I don't judge" because I am so clearly right that I have no words to express it, and you are beneath contempt.
Not always of course, but sometimes in extreme cases I sort of sense this attitude from someone. It is totally dismissive of me and others at this point in a conversation and thrown my way to imply "the discussion is over and of course I am right."
Maybe the appropriate response at that point is "Well you SHOULD!"
I don't know. I'm not very good at communicating sometimes in this day and age. But our conversation here is helpful to me.

I don't judge BUT...
The but negates the I don't judge statement.

I view it as a self-enhancement attempt for moral superiority. I also see it as an unintended peek into true character. It is interesting what we show of ourselves just by the words we choose.

I always thought it meant that no one is free from fault, and that would come from the Biblical saying, " Judge not, lest ye be judged." If I got the quote wrong, forgive me. I'm not a Bible scholar, nor do I want to be. I'm an English major and I like the beauty of words and thoughts expressed, regardless of their origins.

I think that along with so much else rightnow, the word is an integral part of political discussion today. It's used in a variety of ways. Beware of it. :-)

It's kinda like when people say "it's not about the money"..."....... hey it's ALL about the money. Same with this baby...I don't judge means I already decided (judgin' done)!

don’t judge to me means not to look at people and find fault with them. Being human, i do fail at this judgement saying often.
I try to look the other way but human that I am, I look at others many times and find fault with my fellow man
