Re: What Do You Think About The Pop In

I don't mind people dropping by for a visit at all. If I am going out I'll let them know that I don't have a lot of time and that I appreciate their coming by.

I value my friendships.

Rude/inconsiderate.

You can always call first, even if it's from a pay phone.

This is how I was raised, and I always adhere to this thinking.

Re: What Do You Think About The Pop In

I know some who have an open door policy and don't mind but if I didn't invite you just don't come or I will not answer the door.  I would never just drop in on anyone as it's just rude and self centered to think you are so special that everyone is just waiting to be in your presence!!  Anyone who I want to visit knows this and feels the same way.  One relative (who I never cared for) just showed up from out of town and pounded and pounded on my door yelling and causing a scene.  She then went to a nearby payphone (before cells) and called and called.

Hey CB!  Oh I hear that.

I don't mind the call AHEAD, as in way ahead like - I'm going to be in your area in June, or 'next month' or something like that - maybe we could set something up.   I'm cool with that.

Yeah, I think people who are not from this part of the country don't realize how large a state that CA is.    Same would go for TX, of course.

hahahah CB, that cracked me up!!

@Jordan2

I'm with you!  I think it is very inconsiderate and rude.  I would never do it to anyone else either.

I don't even do it to family members and don't want them doing it to me.

I know others feel differently and that's fine as we all have a different comfort levels on these things.

Maybe I am not feeling well and just want to be in my p.j.s and relax.  Maybe I have plans to do cleaning and other projects.  Maybe I am getting ready to go out the door as I have other plans.

In any event, I think -- it only takes a second to call someone and say --- I am going to be in your area, I thought I'd stop if you're not otherwise busy, or whatever.

Re: What Do You Think About The Pop In

I keep my house nice enough all the time, if anyone needs total perfection when they visit - they need to visit elsewhere. In my plan we are a friendly gang and we tend to pop in and out of each other's places all day , every day. We are probably too involved in each other's lives to be honest, but we are all retirees and we have created a 1950's type feel here and we like it this way. No one is required to participate, several neighbors keep more to themselves. Our plan is small enough to easily walk one end to the other and the weather is so nice, that people are outside a lot and tend to stop and chat, which leads to everyone getting to know one another.
