My neighbors are worth over two million dollars (the husband chose to disclose their worth when he ran for elected office.) They are retired and own homes in Wisconsin, Florida, and Colorado. They shop weekly at Goodwill and Salvation Army. Their favorite store for buying new goods is Walmart. The wife sits on the boards of both the local hospital and public library. They donate regularly to those candidates running as Democratics. Should they be considered 'wealthy'?
I enjoyed a visit with the wife of this couple today. We discussed the economic diversity present in our neighborhood. There are public servants, teachers, and factory workers. Fortunately, no home foreclosures that we know of. I guess I started thinking about the title of this thread when she told me that they are trading in their 2005 Ford minivan for a used 2010 Ford F-10 pickup. I told her how much I enjoy driving our new Dodge Charger, and she jokingly said, "So that's how the other half lives." Maybe she doesn't consider she and her husband to be 'wealthy' by today's standards.
