lori, I can top that. A few years ago I was having lunch with some of my cousins, and they were talking about traveling (which should have been my first clue) when one cuz said, 'I saw Pearl Harbor.' I said, 'so did I!!' She said it made her cry and I said, 'me, too.' As I went back to my salad a thought hit me. I said, 'are you talking about the real Pearl Harbor?' and she said she was and I said, 'I was talking about the movie!!!' Man, am I dumb. I loved the movie with Ben Affleck because I love WWll shows and the fashions and hair do-s are so fun. Of course that isn't the gist of it, I know that, but you have to combine the bitter with the sweet-dunno anyone else who liked that movie.

becky, I don't see any reason to start over. Louie isn't a bad kid, but he likes to take things that don't belong to him, and he's a bit on the wild side and because he ran so fast from the cops a lot, someone suggested he train for the Olympics-don't remember much more than that about the early part of the book. So pick up where you left off-he's in the service and when he gets into extreme danger, you are right there with him in that life raft (which is an excerpt in the prelude to the book-first page-not a spoiler). From there on it's pretty can't putdownable.

Just checked out 11 at the library yesterday so when this pile goes down I will pick up where I left off. I bet that helps. Will keep you posted. B.

I just put this on my list. Looks like my type of book. Got a lot of great reviews. Let me know how you enjoy it.

Still reading The Vacationers and so far enjoying it.

Jud, thanks for the laugh! I guess we're Dumb and Dumber (and I'm definitely Dumber!). Just for today. Tomorrow let's be Clever and Cleverer (you being Cleverer, of course. Well, it's More Clever, but I'm Dumber so I got it wrong, LOL).

lori, are you fishing for a compliment? When I look at some of the books you've read, I think we know who's cleverer, and her initials are lori lori Smiley Happy You're a nut. Now just look at that! You've just penned a new word. Cleverer. BTW they didn't tell me that's misspelled so I'm thinking it IS a word. Guess I'm dumber.

Jud, no, not fishing for compliments. Everyone around here knows you are so smart. And over at the other thread you're our head writer! There are very good reasons why Frankie Heck doesn't tuck in with "Ulysses" at the end of her never-ending day, and she's earned the right not to Smiley Happy

I finished Personal (Lee Child) and enjoyed it very much. I love the Jack Reacher series.

I just got Unbroken from the library. I have heard so much about it that I wanted to read it.

Two other new books I want to read is the Mystery of the Shimatah (Sp?) by Jonathan Cahn( I loved the Harbinger that he wrote earlier) and On Pluto: Inside the Mind of ALzheimers by Greg O'Brien.

Re: What Are You Reading --- September 2014

I'm reading In the Skin of a Lion by Michael Ondaatje, a "dazzling predecessor to his Booker Prize-winning The English Patient".

I thought it might be a bit cerebral for me, but it is just so wonderfully written that if I don't understand all of it, I don't care. I am totally transported to another place and time (Toronto at the beginning of the last century) and am finding the characters mesmerizing. His language is amazing.

Whoever put me on to Billie Letts books, which book did you like besides Honk and Holler Opening Soon? Loved it by the way.
