Thanks, Dawg lover. I didn't know The Rosie Project was going to be a movie. I can see how that might be good. The book is very enjoyable. There is a sequel coming out in December called The Rosie Effect.

Finished THE GHOST WRITER. One of those books that was fun to read but when it ended you just said "What was I thinking?" Told with alternating chapters that were ghost stories that in themselves were riveting, but the whole book just ended flat. {#emotions_dlg.sad}

Now reading The Widow Clicquot , a biography about the founder of the champagne empire in the days of the French Revolution. Just started so can't really comment yet.

Re: What Are You Reading --- October 2014

I just finished SOME LUCK by JANE SMILEY, a Pulitzer prize winning author. This is a new book and is the first in a trilogy about a farm family in Iowa. Starting in 1920 each chapter covers one year. Sooooooo....I thought wow just my kind of book - I love a good saga! Well, was I wrong - this book was BORING. I finished it because I kept thinking it was going to get better but it was soooooo slow, painfully so, that I couldn't wait til I finally finished it. I don't get it - the other Pulitzer price winning author's book I read was OLIVE KITTEREDGE and I didn't like that either. They are now making O. K. into a miniseries on HBO - think I'll skip it.

Some Luck is on my list. One chapter per year? OMG. I never read her other books but this one sounded interesting. I'll give it a shot. As for Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout, I totally agree. How did this win a Pulitzer?

Re: What Are You Reading --- October 2014

I had received an advance copy of Jane Smiley's Some Luck.

I adored it. In fact, I purchased a few copies to give as gifts this Christmas.

Smiley brought us inside all her characters: each is unique and views life in a slightly different way.

I think the trilogy is an amazing idea/challenge. I look forward to the next books!

Hi-Haven't posted on this thread for some time, but I do love seeing what everyone's reading! I'm currently reading Once We Were Brothers. About 1/2 way through. I'm not enjoying it, and finding it a bit tedious and not well-written--despite all of the book's glowing reviews.

Having trouble getting 'hooked' on my next book. Any suggestions for something that grabs you right away? TIA. LM

OMgosh, I LOVED that book. Have been waiting and waiting for a new one. I have been to his website and maybe I'm crazy, but he's got kind of an ego-he's already got the movie cast, but I guess it's just in his mind because he's had no offers, lol. I don't care, loved that book. Also loved The Paris Architect. Still waiting for something new from that author.
