Finished Richard Matheson's iconic horror novel "Hel House." Said to be the best haunted house book ever, and the same is said of Shirley Jackson's "The Haunting of Hill House."
They are both brilliant but at the same time have sexual content that puzzles me. Oh well, nothing is perfect.
But "Hel House" had, IMO, a shockingly stupid ending. I got the movie On Demand and it ends the same way. Yuck! Huh? Why?

I finally read Big Stone Gap. I wanted to read it before I saw the movie. I checked out the cast on IMDB and it seems very well cast. Almost perfect! A cute book-dunno if I want to go on with the series or not. TTYTT, I'm surprised it's a movie.

Finished Alice Hoffman's The Museum of Extraordinary Things. Historical and magical at the same time.
Going to read Susan Coll's The Stager next.

I did like the first one the best. The 2nd one was good, too. If I had never read the 3rd and 4th I don't think I would have missed much.
By the way, I know I'm a dunderhead, but what does TTYTT mean?

smoky, you are not a dunderhead and you are going to kick yourself when I tell you it means:
To Tell You The Truth. I think there is a list somewhere of computer slang. I don't text but this is probably where it came from-saw it in a post once and had to trace its origin ![]()

Reading and reading THE HURRICANE SISTERS by DORETHEA BENTON FRANK. It is ok, not holding my interest as I want to know what happens next. Halfway through and it took weeks already. If one of my other books on hold came through, this would have been a goner.

Just started The Ghostwriter by John Harwood. Billed as a mystery/ghost story which starts when a young boy in Australia finds a photo of a strange woman locked away in his Mother desk.
He also simultaneously starts a letter writing campaign with a mysterious pen pal in England: a young crippled girl who he fantasizes about being like this mysterious photo's subject.
Will this lead him back to his Mother's homeland, England, to try to solve a mystery and meet his pen pal? ? I think that's where this is headed.
Also just finished listening to Hearts in Atlantis by Stephen King: 20 CD's totaling 21 hours. I don't think I would have stayed with the book had I been reading it myself, but the narration by William Hurt (an actor I have never really warmed up to) and Stephen King is amazing. Mesmerizing, in fact. William Hurt is definitely the BEST reader I have listened to.

Now I'm on her fifth book THE SECRET PLACE and I can't say I'm loving it - I'm into it 150 pages and I'm thinking it's OK but not great. I'm really surprised - maybe it will pick up - I'll keep you posted!I love Tana French, and I think The Secret Place is excellent! I only have about 40 more pages to go: it's brilliantly done.
I'm buying a couple more copies to give as gifts this Christmas.
I have to agree with SAgal on this one. I'm a Tana French fan too but this one just isn't anywhere nears as good as the others for me. I've been reading it for a week and I'm about 2/3rds into it. Usually I read a couple of books a week but this one isn't grabbing me like her others. Almost want to forget it but feel like I've invested a week into it so I may as well finish, lol.

I started The Orchardist for pleasure.
This is the book I'm also reading as part of a book study.
