Haven't dipped my toe into Unbroken yet. Does it flow smoothly and quickly or is it a terse read ? Can't decide if I really want to invest the time and energy unless it stays really griping all the way through. But I also don't want to be the only one who hasn't read it either.... Advice ??

I know I'll be disappointed in the movie, they never hold up to the book.

I read it under coercision from my aunt and because so many on this board loved it so. It was a little slow going in the beginning, like Judaline said, but once it got going I could not put it down. I was reading every chance I could get and I was so sorry to get to the end. Mind you I never read war things, ever. But this story is extraordinary and I think you'll be so glad you read it if you do.

Lori, between you and Judaline you may convince me to read Unbroken. I hardly ever read war things, either.

edited to say, I just put myself on waitlist for it. I'm #80.

I read The Perfume Collector by Kathleen Tessaro and was disappointed. It alternates between Paris of the 1920's and Paris of the 1950's. I think I'm tired of this back and forth storytelling that seems so popular. The 1950's story is boring and predictable. You could read the first chapter on it and then skip to the end. The 1920's story is a little more interesting but it's a forgettable book for me.

I just started yesterday The Longest Ride by Nicholas Sparks. It's about two couples and their love stories One is about an elderly man involved in a car accident and trapped in his car and he see and talks to his dead wife whose next to him. The other is about a college student who meets a cowboy with a secret. Each chapter has the character's name that's featured in that chapter.

I received yesterday my long awaited The Making of Us by Lisa Jewell. I don't believe I have come across a writer who pulls you in so quickly that you cannot wait to read more and more. I am sure I will continue reading her many other books but what a find she is!! Again many thanks to SAgal for introducing her to me!!

I did finish Iron House by John Hart but it disappointed me a great deal after having read The Last Child.

I finally read Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell. This is classified as YA fiction, but don't let that keep you from reading it. If you work with youth, it should be required reading. For the rest of us it is a great story about the depth of young love and the bleak home life of some young people in our communities. I highly recommend this book.

I just finished this one, and I really liked it. It's a bit romance, mystery, thriller, suspense, and murder all in one.

Lizette Henry wakes up one morning and makes a terrifying discovery: She doesn’t recognize the face she sees in the mirror. She remembers what she looks like, but her reflection is someone else’s. To add to the shock, two years seem to have disappeared from her life. Someone has gone to great and inexplicable lengths to keep those missing years hidden forever. But the past always finds a way to return...

I LOVE all Linda Howard books. Starting reading her way back in the day when she was a beginning romance author. When she went into mainstream books and also began writing suspense/mystery books I became a very happy reader.

Have you read Open Season (2002), a heart-pounding thriller suspense that begins like a

a lonely heart's club book, then there is Kill And Tell , a sexy, romantic , riveting superb suspense story that you can't put down ! Don't forget Mr. Perfect, which is part romance novel and part gripping psychological thriller, which is both frightening and funny as the plight of a modern woman searches for an ideal mate. She also wrote a steamy , eerie, passionate thrilling romance novel that turns into a page-turning murder mystery of great interest in Now You See Her.But you can't miss some of her later best-sellers such as Cover of Night, Dying To Please, To Die For, Killing Time, and Drop Dead Gorgeous is delicious, including some yummy recipes in the back of the book !!! Oh, but I can't forget to mention of of her all-time best-sellers entitled Prey ! A must-read for any good Linda Howard fan, please don't miss that one !!

As I said, I love her books, she is always a good, five- star award winner ! Pick one you like and please give her a try !!

She's one of my many favorite must-read fiction authors !!!

Re: What Are You Reading --- October 2014

Hi,

Oh Remee, you have mentioned some very good reads with Linda Howard ! She reminds me of Nora Roberts, a./k.a. JD Robb, and other contemporary mystery/suspense/thriller authors ! Great best-seller reads !

I also like James Patterson, Stuart Woods, David Baldacci, Carl Hiassen , Lisa Scottoline, Lisa Gardner, John Grisham, Tess Gerritsen, Sandra Brown, Elizabeth Lowell, Julie Garwood, Karen Robards,Sharon Sala, a.k.a. Maggie Shayne and so many other top authors !

I'm so glad many previous romance authors like Iris Johansen and Sandra Brown now write the suspense stories, as Linda Howard does because it broadens their and our reading lists !!

And with all of the new authors coming out in these genres, it does seem we have many good books to read for a long time coming !

I'm beginning to re-read The Shack right now. Too good for a one-time read !! (Kind of like Memoirs of a Geisha!) Some books call out and say "one more time please"!

Glad to know we share the same love of authors ! Look forward to reading your posts in the future! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1}

Goodnight all.
