Just downloaded Three Wishes by Liane Moriarty; I read The Husband's Secret by the same author last month and really enjoyed it. Anyone else familiar with this author? (I know you're out there ). I would love to hear your favorites by her.

I have a friend who calls Binchy's books romance novels.
I don't consider myself a romance novel fan, but I sure do love Maeve Binchy's stories!
I wouldn't consider her books romance in the true sense of the genre, although there is often that element woven into the plots. Not to knock romances (I do enjoy them from time to time), but Binchy's books are so much more than formula romances. Much, much richer! JMHO.
Adding Chestnut Street to my list. I haven't read a Binchy book in a while, so it must be time

I'm reading Nancy Turner's latest novel, My Name is Resolute. This is a big thick historical fiction starting in Jamaica in the year 1729. Loving it so far. I'm a huge fan of her Sarah's Quilt trilogy.
Before that I read a biographical fiction on Robert Lewis Stevnesen, Under the Wide and Starry Sky, by Nancy Horan. Loved that too.
I've read a few other really good books since my last post here. One that stand out is North of Boston by Elisabeth Elo. I guess you'd call it a mystery of sort. Very different from the ordinary mystery genre though. Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert is also excellent. Oh, and I really loved North River by Pete Hamill. ![]()
On the other hand, I've read a couple that I finished but didn't much care for such as Remember Me Like This by Bret Anthony Johnston. A kidnapping tale. I also couldn't stand The Bloodletter's Daughter.
It had been on my wait list forever so I went ahead and read it. Disappointing.

Minding Frankie and A Year in Winter were her last two books. If her husband put these stories together that she had written over the years after she died, then we get a bonus. I love Maeve Binchy. I call her "warm chic lit", not romance. Just put in for Chestnut Street at my library. Mahalo!

I posted that I was reading this. It kept getting better, didn't it? Very thick book but you really want it to keep going. Very different setting than when Agnes was fighting Indians!

I loved her first novel, Three Wishes. It's the only book of hers I've read. But I loved it so much that I included it in a box of new books I sent a beloved aunt who was recently widowed. I got the idea because they were married 63 years and she has talked of being sad how much time she has on her hands. She was so grateful and one by one has been calling me to let me know how much she loves each book. She chose Three Wishes first, I don't know why.
FYI the other books I sent her were Montana 1948 and the sequel Justice by Larry Watson
Case Histories by Kate Atkinson (Jackson Brody #1)
A Yellow Raft in Blue Water by the late Michael Dorris
The Bird Artist by Howard Norman
Patty Jane's House of Curl by Lorna Landvik
Daisy Fae and the Miracle Man by Fannie Flagg (funniest book I've ever read)
Remember Me by Laurie Hendrie
The Sweet Hereafter by Russell Banks
The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery
The Cuckoo's Calling by JK Rowling
(I kept a record in case she loved it so I could do it again and not send her the same book twice! And she is loving them so I'm already trying to get ideas for box #2 even though it will be awhile before she makes her way through these).

Lori, what a wonderful (and thoughtful) way to gift your books to someone. I have to admit I hadn't heard of most of your selections. I did love the Jackson Brody series. I wish Kate Atkinson would do another one. I liked the 2nd one best. I will have to look up some of your other selections.
