If anyone is looking for a light fast read this is one. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. About an IT security guy whose job it is to monitor employee e-mail at a newspaper. He falls in love with one of the e-mail writers sight unseen. It is a humorous story.

Hi DIanne & Everyone,

Just wanted to chime in and mention another fast, fun read by the above author that I really enjoyed was Landline. Read it last summer. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup} For some odd reason I could NOT get into Attachments. I was so excited to read it b/c I really liked the previously mentioned book. Maybe I'll give it another whirl.

Tonight I'd like to start another one by Rainbow Rowell that has gotten lots of good reviews called Eleanor & Park. I think this one was billed as YA originally, but I've read many good things about it from young and old and everyone in between. I'll post back after I finish. Smiley Happy

Re: What Are You Reading --- January 2015

I read both Attachments and Eleanor and Park and liked them both.

I finished another Agatha Raisin and Plainsong by Kent Haruf.

I am now reading We Were Liars By E. Lockhart. So far, so good!

blessed, I read Half Broken Things (Morag Joss) and thought it was really good. Then I read another of her books and didn't like it (can't remember the name) so I kind of gave up on her. Half Broken Things is quite a story!

I'm currently reading Run by Ann Patchett. I'm about half way through and I think it's good. She's a very interesting writer and I've liked everything I've read by her so far. I think MrsSweetieBear recommended the book.

Interesting that you mention her other works, b/c I went to Amazon last night looking for something else by her and more than a few did not get more than 3 stars...

smg - I hope you continue to enjoy Run. It was on my Best of 2014 list in the Best of 2014 thread.

Last night I finished The Rose Project and loved it. It will make my Best of List for this year for sure. Australian setting and author. Fun and quirky male protagonist. I was rooting for him all the way.

Next up is The Beautiful Mystery by Louse Penny. I barely started it but so far the monastery, monks and Gregorian Chants are not holding my interest. But I want to see what happens with the regular characters, Gamache and Beauvior so I have to read it and not skip to go on to the next in the series.

I finished "The Burgess Boys" by Elizabeth Strout and as you said, Sweet, it was not good at all. I can't even believe Strout could write a book I dislike so much. Even the most likeable of characters was not rootable and the rest were miseries. I loved her other three, "Olive Kitteridge" is one of my favorite books of all time.

I'm about to start "The Art Forger" by B.A. (Barbara) Shapiro. It's a novel about the greatest art theft of all time, which occurred at Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum (a truly lovely place; I've been there before the theft, and since). And it's about art forgery in general and a woman who is asked to forge a Degas. Many reviewers say it's a fast-paced read. Has anyone here read it?

I disliked Olive Kitteridge just as much. LOL.

As for The Art Forger, I couldn't finish that one either. LOL.

We read The Art Forger for book club when it first came out. I enjoyed it but I think more because I live in Boston area and felt connected to the story. You will learn a lot how to forge a painting and about the business of forging paintings "honestly", which I didn't realize was a common occurrence.

I'm thoroughly engrossed with East of Eden by John Steinbeck. There is so much more to the book than the movie or mini-series ever covered. Glad it's snowing today and no football because I really don't want to put it down. Always have been a Steinbeck fan but East of Eden eluded me.

Finished The Summer I Read Gatsby by Danielle Ganek. I'm glad I didn't buy this silly book and won it in a contest.

Onto Billy Joel (nf) by Fred Schruers. Haven't read a biography or nf in a while.

I love all of John Steinbeck, but Travels With Charley is my favorite book by him.

Re: What Are You Reading --- January 2015

I'm about halfway through this:

'Scott, it's Rebecca. I need you.'After years of silence, Texan lawyer Scott Fenney receives a devastating phone call from his ex-wife. She has been accused of murdering her boyfriend, Trey - the man she left Scott for - and is being held in a police cell. Now she is begging Scott to defend her.Scott is used to high-stakes cases, but this one is bigger than anything he has handled before. If Rebecca is found guilty, under Texas law she will be sentenced to death. He will have her blood on his hands. As he prepares to take the stand in the most dramatic courtroom appearance of his life, Scott is forced to question everything he believes to get to the truth - to save the life of the ex-wife he still loves...

Re: What Are You Reading --- January 2015

MrsSweetieBear, several of us on this board recommended "THE ROSIE PROJECT". It was very cute and they are going to make a movie of it. I also read the new sequel, "THE ROSIE EFFECT" and it was okay, but not nearly as good as the first book, IMO. Thanks to BORN TO SHOP's recommendation, I read "THE GIRL WITH A CLOCK FOR A HEART" by Peter Swanson, and it was very exciting and suspenseful. I would have liked a stronger ending, but 99% of it was great. I also read the new Flavia book by Alan Bradley, "AS CHIMNEY SWEEPS, COME TO DUST". I thought the beginning and end were good, but it dragged a bit in the middle. I just read the book that the PBS Grantchester series is based upon, "SIDNEY CHAMBERS AND THE SHADOW OF DEATH" by James Runcie, and thought it was good. So far, it looks like the tv series is faithful to the book. I am also reading the Constable Evans cozy mystery series by Rhys Bowen, which begins with "EVANS ABOVE." They remind me very much of the Hamish MacBeth series by M. C. Beaton, as he too is a policeman in a quirky village.
