Re: What Are You Reading --- December 2014

I just finished the 3rd book in the Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. It was called Ruin and Rising. I really enjoyed this series. This last book had me quickly reading to finish it to find out how it ended. There were some great twists in it. The author did a fabulous job creating this elaborate storyline and setting. I'm sad it's over. It's been a while since a series sucked me in like this one did.

New for me: Martha Stewart books. Library book sale yesterday, and I got some different ones from what I usually get. I got a Christmas one with stories, and poems and more, that has Norman Rockwell's name on it. I intend to set back and curl up and totally enjoy this. Some of the MS books are with recipes and crafty type things. (This is if you want something different from stories this year, again, I do more NF books). I have found some of the best NF books I really enjoy, would be called "coffee table" books. I mean, have you seen Barbra Streisand's book, on how she built and decorated her home? I just love it, and yet I'm not a huge fan of hers. She's talented, just not my preference. So if you're looking for some ideas for gifts of books, those are mine.

Jan Karon has a lovely cookbook, if you read her Mitford Series. Each recipe has a story about her fictional characters. For instance, 'Puny's Sweet Potato Casserole.' A very inspirational book that could be an enjoyable read, even if you don't make the recipes. But I love her and her books, so maybe it's just me.

I finished Snobs by Julian Fellowes (writer of Downton). It was a quick read, almost as though he's sitting next to you by the fireplace telling you the story which is about social climbing in British society, of which he is of course a keen observer. It was written before he did Downton. I recommend it.

Now I'm reading Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, a light little book for the holiday season (kidding). It's an acclaimed book about the last woman executed for murder in Iceland. Doesn't sound like a topic most anyone would want to read about, right? But she makes it fascinating. She's a lovely writer and its a novelization of an intriguing true story.

SAgal was so glad you too enjoyed The Last Child but it sure was heads and tales over his newest one which was a huge disappointment to me....Iron House I think it was.

I am now and still haven't finished Gray Mountain and am enjoying it a lot. Did you ever check out Lisa Jewell's The House We Grew Up in and another of hers which was fantastic called The Making of Us??? She is my new favorite writer (new to me--not to the Britians). If you read any of Lisa's, would love to know if you loved them as much as I did!

Ringer....I too am a fan of Lisa Jewell. Reading "The Making of Us" right now, so far I like it. Another book of hers I enjoyed is "Before I Met You." Check it out.

I really enjoy this forum. I get so many good ideas. Thank you to all of you "bookies."

Finished Tell The Wolves I'm Home by Carol Rifka Brunt and really enjoyed it. The 2 yr was worth the wait from my library!

Onto Bittersweet by Colleen McCullough.

SWEET I'm reading Tell the Wolves I'm Home as we speak. I'm loving it, but I do want to smack Gretel for being so nasty!

I'm also reading Doctor Sleep, which I started reading yesterday as a sample on my computer. I got into it so I took it out from my e-library and loaded it on my Kindle. I read it for a while and then went back to Tell the Wolves I'm Home. I like it much more, plus I discovered that Doctor Sleep is another one of Stephen King's sagas at over 500 pages.

I finished Revival and I have to say, I just loved it. As I'd heard, the ending totally creeped me out. It reminded me of the classic Stephen King, and it's taking a while to get those last scenes out of my head.

I'm off to read now. Have sweet dreams everyone {#emotions_dlg.laugh}
