I'm reading a nonfiction book at the moment: How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster. It's an interesting tool to help you analyze literature. It sure would have helped to have read this one back in college! It talks about various literary devices and themes; for example, when a journey is a quest (the elements that make up a quest) vs. when a journey is just a journey. Or as my daughter said, it's about how to over-analyze books
It's pretty easy to read just one chapter at a time, so I am going to pick up a novel to read as I have a long plane ride next week. Stay tuned...

When Olivia, wild-haired and headstrong, makes a terrible mistake, she must turn to the person least likely to help—her mother, Elaine.

Motherhood was a role that Elaine never embraced and her best never amounted to much. But now Olivia faces prosecution for a naïve connection to a drug deal and she needs Elaine more than ever. As the days count down and Olivia's future hangs in the balance, Elaine must decide just how much she is willing to give for a second chance with her daughter.
How did you like this one? Or anyone with books they liked by this author because I've seen her books but haven't read any yet.
I bought this years ago and it's still on my shelf. I've read most of her books including her earlier "mommy" mysteries and she's a great author. As for her husband Michael Chabon's, that's another story.
Thanks SWEET and lolakimono for answering. I didn't know she was Michael Chabon's wife but I think I've heard of her now.

Last week I reread The Dovekeepers-Alice Hoffman in preparation for the tv movie. The movie did not do the novel justice, imho.
Next on my list is At the Water's Edge-Sara Gruen, who also wrote Water for Elephants.
I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on At The water's Edge. I loved Water for Elephants and then read Ape House and couldn't believe it was written by the same person. This one sounds like it will be quite interesting. Hopefully, it is as good as WFE.

I read some really good books this month. The only disappointment was Lippman. I usually really enjoy her stories, but this one was only fair. Little Black Lies was by a new author and I thought it was excellent.
Life or Death by Michael Robotham (one of my favorite authors)
Hush Hush by Laura Lippman
The Stranger by Harlen Coben
Little Black Lies by Sandra Block

LOL!!! I can't count the number of times that I loved an author's debut novel only to be disappointed by the second. Somehow, my past experiences haven't taught me much; I keep believing my luck will change!!!

I am reading The Apple Orchard, by Susan Wiggs. I am reading it on my husband's Nook. Yes, I finally made it into this century.
This is the third book I read on the Nook.
I prefer to hold, smell, feel a book, but my 22 year old son challenged me to enter this century.
I love that I can make the print bigger so I don't have to wear my reading glasses. Why is it I can never find them when I need them???
We'll see if I continue to use it.............................stay tuned.

I just finished this, but I don't know that I'll continue the series to find out "what happens." There are a lot of references to past events, not that I couldn't keep up, but I didn't feel any incentive to read the previous two or later editions.

Justice must prevail…
Aiden Connelly has settled in to life in Avalon and is developing a reputation as an attorney who will fight for the truth … no matter what enemies he makes along the way.
…whatever the cost.
But when he is asked to look into the tragic death of an old friend ten years before, Aiden is drawn back to his hometown of Greensburg, the town he eagerly fled as a teenager. As the ghosts from Aiden’s past resurface, and new dilemmas rise up to challenge him in Avalon, Aiden begins to wonder if everything he holds true has been built on lies.

Each chapter was written by a specific chef about an accident or something funny that happened in the kitchen or restaurant at some point in their career. Some of the incidents were interesting or funny and some not so much. It was a pretty easy read though and if one chapter wasn't very interesting the next might be; so it went quickly.
Hey, this looks like something I would enjoy.

I am about 3/4 way through this one. Fascinating exploration of the Beanie Baby phenomenon and how it came about. It all started with a couple of housewives in Suburban Chicago...
