My little girl was told he assumes the nationality of the country he's in at the time.  That's too "deep" for me!

If we're talking about the original St. Nicholas, he was born in Asia Minor in the part of the Roman Empire that is now Turkey.

 

If we're talking about the North Pole, no nation owns it outright.
