This evening I decided to do my laundry, so I took my loads to the laundry room, only to discover that three out of the five machines were already in use, which was fine, because I only needed two machines anyway.
o I put my clothes in, toss in a laundry pac, feed the machines quarters, and start the wash.
As the clothes were starting the wash cycle, I looked at the bag of laundry soap, only to discover that it wasn't detergent at all. It was instead laundry booster, which is used in conjunction with detergent.
I had forgotten that I was out of detergent.
I had to laugh at myself.
Well, at least my clothes would be cleaner than they were before.
When one washer was on the final spin cycle, the people who were using the other three washers, came back.
There are only three dryers in the laundry room, and I was hoping that the young couple who had used the three washers, would leave one for me.
I mean, that's what I would do, if I saw that someone else was washing their clothes.
The young couple decided to use ll three dryers, which meant that I had to wait until they were done, before I could dry my clothes.
I was a little annoyed, but I said nothing, because they did get there and start their wash before me.
So I waited until they were done. What other choice did I have?
Once I did finally get my clothes in to one dryer, I put my quarters in, and went back to my apartment.
A few minutes later, the power went out, due to a wind storm that we were having.
They were off momentarily, before coming back on.
About five minutes later, same thing happened.
Lights went off for a few minutes, before coming back on.
I laughed and said, "Really? You wait until I finally do my laundry, and then you turn off the power? Who says that You don't have a sense of humor?"
So, after 40 minutes, I went down to get my laundry out of the dryer.
The wind was still howling, as I folded my clothes, and put them in my basket.
I stopped by my dad's apartment to check on him, and his next door neighbor lent him two battery operated candles, in case the power went out again.
Then she exclaimed, "Look over there!!!", pointing to the west.
I looked, and there was a blue-green light illuminating the night sky, along with an arcing bzzzzzzing sound of a transformer blowing a block or two over.
I told our neighbor that a transformer was blowing.
Then we were plunged into total darkness.
My dad has flashlights, and he went and got it, and turned it on.
I had my smart phone with me, and had just downloaded a flashlight app, so I used that.
I also have several flashlights, so I went to my apartment, got one, and took it over to my dad's, in case he wanted to use it.
He didn't.
The power was off for maybe an hour, before coming back on.
The wind storm has since blown itself out, and it is now calm again outside.
I told you that it was an interesting night!

@Plaid Pants2 That is quite the story.I am glad that you weren't in the laundry room when the power went out..that would feel unsafe.
Ps...dont forget to pick up the laundry soap before your next laundry day

I'm still trying to figure out how her laundry dried. She says the power went out twice and, if a dryer is like all dryers, she would have had to click them back on once the power was restored. Hmmm

When I left the laundry room, the young couple was still in there.
When the power came back on, they must have restarted it for me.
In any event, my clothes were dry when I went back to get them.

I’m glad everything turned out okay. And I’m sure that’s what happened - the couple turned the dryer back on for you, which was nice of them......I love the way you explain your posts. They’re very detailed so therefore I’m able to get a vivid picture in my mind of your experiences.
Thank-you.
I think in another life, I was a writer. *lol*

That is some kinda laudry story. The one thing I don't like about this condo complex is that we cannot have washer/dryers in our units. There was a laundry room in the first unit we owned but when we bought this one, we found out that there was no laundry room. We have to use the one in the building across from us. I hate that!!! It's not far but I hate having to wait for machines and I hate schlepping my laundry over there and back. To be honest, I only did it 2 or 3 times. I decided that I work for a reason and that reason is to make money to make my life easier. So, I send our laundry out to be professionally done. The laundry room machines are $2.00 for the washer and dryer and I generally used three washers and three dryers a week. Plus the detergent and fabric softener. The laundry service costs more but I'm not paying for laundry supplies and I have them come every 10 days. The charge isn't that much more than doing it my self.

I hear you.
For me, it's $1.25 per machine to wash, and the dryer is $0.25 for eight (8) minutes of run time.
It does add up.
It's one of the advantages of owning a home.

@Plaid Pants2....the joys of living in an apartment right? We lived in one when the kids were small and I remember the clods who would use all the dryers with no thought of anybody but themselves. Then there are the tenants who open your dryer door while you are waiting in your apartment because there is nowhere to sit in the laundry room. You would come back to a dryer full of wet clothing.
Eventually, I went to Sears and bought those stack it washer dryers (portable). They had their disadvantages, though, because they fit so little in them and the dryer took forever to dry.
Sorry all this happened to you. Hoping today is a better day for you.
