The brain needs good fats to function especially omega fatty acids.

I eat very little carbohydrate, but lots of low glycemic vegetables, only one apple a day. Never consume chips, bread, or the like. I have been eating this way for about 15 years. American society is so use to eating junk.
Good for you. Sounds like a very healthy diet.

I am glad your daughter is doing better BMUS. I had no idea!!

Thanks Irish. Yep the last many years have been good ones for her. I mention the diet from time to time here for 2 reasons. I still think it is such an amazing thing AND because there might be someone out there who can use the information. Our life is now good and perhaps someone else can be helped!

I see Sidsmom hasn't returned to this thread. She and I have had this discussion before. I cannot remember what doctor's advice/plan she follows but she is very anti-fat and doesn't believe that there is any such thing as healthy fat.

There was a thread in the Kitchen Forum awhile ago about butter v. margarine and she was posting there about it and how fat is the enemy and is the cause of all our health problems including diabetes and if people would eat according to this doctor's plan, there would be no high blood pressure, no diabetes, no high cholestrol, reduced cancer rates, etc.

Genetics plays a role in various diseases as well. So how does that work with this plan?{#emotions_dlg.confused1}

After trying all different kinds of "buttery spreads" over the years, I found my way back to butter a couple of years ago. All the fakes are just full of chemicals that are worse than a little butter fat in my diet. A little bit of real butter goes a long way & there's no substitute for the flavor.

In my life, coffee was OK, then it wasn't, then it was again. Same with eggs & some other foods. The bottom line truly is all things in moderation.

Years ago, when the first big wave of no fat whatsoever trend came out I went to a cooking class given by a proponent of no fat. She advocated drinking Crystal Light all day--not just plain water. She had almost no fat in her diet and she looked horrible. Gaunt, dry wrinkled skin and thin lifeless hair. She was probably early 30's but looked 10 years older. Yes, she was thin, but it wasn't attractive at all.

I came away from that class knowing she was wrong and that her lifestyle was nearly as unhealthy as someone who eats too much fat.
