I don't know about Oprah, but I do know that shortly before I heard that announcement, I had just leafed through Dr. Phil's 20/20 diet book and said aloud to myself, "Time to get back on WW. There's no way I'm doing this."
But I'm also not about to count points or go to meetings, so for me WW means choosing the best of the ideas I learned from WW years ago along with a bit of the new nutrition advice I've learned since.

I lost weight on WW, before they started using points years ago.
O's situation sure looks like stock manipulation to me, even if it's technically legal.

A good friend of mine lost weight (about 25 lbs) when they began the point system. She loved it and was always talking about how great it was.
I gain weight easily and gain about 5 lbs over the holidays in recent years. Last year I did, too, and I joined WW online only. Lost the weight right away, stayed on to make sure it was off.
I love that point system and I follow several food bloggers who use it, too.
I don't understand why people dislike it, it's easy.

I am a lifetime member and I have hated every points program they have come out with since 123 Success. I believe 123 was the first points system and that is what I lost most of my weight on. I lost the rest with their next incarnation which was called Winning Points.
I have detested every points program that began using flexpoints.

Why? What is it about that system?
In high school, everyone was counting calories, now THAT was a PITA.
The point system is easy and the food bloggers do all the work for you.

I don't think counting calories is a PITA at all. There are so many programs out there you can download and they do all the work. You can scan a label and it enters the information right into the program.
First of all, I've never had success losing weight on the newer points programs using flexpoints. I will lose the first 2 weeks and then after that, I'll lose 1/2 pound, 1/4 pound, gain a pound or 2, lose a 1/2 pound. I never had that problem with earlier points programs. I consistently lost at least a pound a week, generally more, and never hit a plateau.
For so many, it's a lot of playing around to figure out how many of the flexpoints one can eat and still lose weight, if any. Some people don't lose using any of the flexpoints. Some people can use them all every week and lose and some can use some of them, but not all, and lose.
I also don't believe in the "free" fruit. Regardless fruit has calories and it has sugar. And one of the first things they look at if you are having an issue losing is your food journal and if you are eating a lot of fruit, they tell you to cut some of the fruit out. Then the fruit isn't really free.

Don't like O, and I don't like WW.
Tried WW once over twenty years ago, and I didn't like how it was ran.
I didn't mind paying to join the program. What I did mind was, having to re-join and pay again when I missed one meeting because I was sick.
Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me.
I for one do not worship the ground that O walks on.
If she said that she uses Charmin toilet paper, I would use a different brand.

Thanks for explaining!
ITA about finding your right point level, I cut back much more than they suggested. I couldn't lose on all they allotted me.
Re: fruit and veg... there's science behind that. I know I am not going to remember the details, but basically it's that the fiber in them does something with the sugar absorption, almost cancelling it out.
The good thing for me is that I never ate much fruit before but I got to love it on cereal in the mornings, so I still do it. I use high fiber cereal with 30 cal almond milk and top with a few slices of banana, blueberries and a sliced strawberry. Filling and I've grown to love it.
