There are going to be people who don't check the website, I wouldn't. I'm amazed at what couples expect, for the 2nd time a gift was returned to me for not meeting their $$$$ request so am I going to sent a more expensive gift...NO! I'll just a note acknowledging I received the returned gift & my best wishes.

@kitcat51, seriously, a check was sent back??  I have never in all my life heard of something so  ridiculous and rude.

Not invited to the ceremony, just the reception, sounds like a gift grab to me.

@CelticCrafter  I think it's safe to say, at least a few of us were thinkign the same thing.  Me included.

I think the opposite...it seems more like a gift grab if one was invited just to the ceremony but not the reception...which is where hosts spend money on their guests.

@kitcat51 . What?!!  Am I reading this correctly?...They returned your gift because its not what they wanted and they expect you to spend more?!! Wow!

I can see your point, @haddon9, but that doesn't seem to be an issue here.  It looks like everyone is going to the reception while only a select few are going to the ceremony.  IMO all guests should be included for both.

Re: Wedding Invitation Confusion

When I got married there was a fire in the sanctuary of the church so we had to move the wedding to the sunday school chapel. We had invited 125 people and now could only accommadate 50. So we had to phone 75 people and tell them they were no longer invited to the ceremony but only to the reception. That was ok - I preferred the smaller wedding ceremony.A few were upset but most were fine with it.

Re: Wedding Invitation Confusion

I would arrive at the time and place stated on the invitation I received. No worries. Enjoy!

I don't think it's gift grad.  They are invited to a cocktain reception and dinner.  My son and his fiancee wanted to get married on the beach and dinner per person was $100.  At their local country club/golf it was $40 a person.  I'm glad that they decided to have a small wedding and buy a house.  This is her 2nd marriage (she has a 15 yr old son) and my son's 1st marriage (he's 45 now).

[ Edited ]

a bit off topic, but my s/o would be THRILLED to only be invited to the reception. Smiley Wink he cannot stand to sit through the ceremonies and often does not come, but will meet me at the reception.

i dont see this as a "gift grab" at all. (lol, how i hate that term......i only first heard it on THESE forums.) weddings/baby showers/receptions always make the "best"  threads.

@henderson- everyone will have their own opinion on this, which is fine.  The reason I see it as a gift grab is that certain people are being excluded from the most important part of the day but getting invited to the reception so there will be a gift given.  It has nothing to do with how much the reception costs.
