As a most of my life resident of the Chicago area, I was inclined to laugh off the situation with the weather in the Atlanta area.

Couple inches of snow here is not much. I realize the south is not used to the same conditions.

When I saw all the ice, I stopped laughing. Ice is the worst driving condition in my opinion.

If I were a resident there, I would be pretty disgusted with the "officials" in charge of road safety, etc. It's not as if this wasn't predicted ahead of time.

Perhaps they need to study and implement a contingency plan for having some salt and bad weather equipment for just this sort of thing.

Do it before next winter!

Yes, you're right. You don't have any control when trying to drive on ice. I really feel for all those folks & hope the weather warms up for them soon!

The publicity's been so bad maybe that'll be enough to make them get a plan for the next time.

Voters will remember, this, too. Years ago, here in Denver, a mayoral race was lost by the incumbent because of the poor handling of snow removal after a blizzard.

Even with chains, ice is very dicey to drive upon.

Here, they send out the dump trucks with sand . . . with the bed tilted up and I guess the back open just a little . . . and mainly treat the overpasses.

These days with the roads and highways . . . it gets to the point that a major thoroughfare can be 90% overpasses . . . one after another after another and so on and so on for miles and miles. Any melting from traffic only re-freezes even slicker than before.

Oh yeah. Ice or blowing snow that blocks out visibility. The 2 worst things.

In Chicago, 1n 1979, the mayoral race was changed due to a huge amount of snow and people's perception the mayor didn't deal appropriately with it.

Ever since, any mayor has made sure snow removal is a priority!

I think Guiliani (spelling?) dealt with similar issues in NYC

We are finally thawing out- we are out in the county and the roads in our subdivision are still slick but drivable. We ventured to the store, our neighbor had his Yukon towed back into his driveway (it slipped down his hill), our other neighbor has his abandoned Mercedes back home, and our Governor has accepted full responsibility.. We will vote for him again.. it happened, kids are safe, most of the abandoned cars are off our interstates & side roads.. this could happen anywhere, will be so happy when the media stops showing it all over tv & us again the laughing stock.
