Burn permits are not given in my immediate area inside the city limits, but they are given to people who live outside the city limits in rural areas within my county. Untreated wood, grass, weeds and branches are allowed to be  burned in open piles when there are no fire danger warnings given by the fire warden. Keeping grass and weeds cut will help keep a fire from spreading quickly. Cuttings must be piled then burned. Warnings prohibit open burning of any kind and are usually given when the humidity is low and the wind is high. Lack of precip does not constitute grounds for issuing a no-burn warning, but it contributes heavily on making a decision to issue one. @LTT1

Southern WV started yesterday with snow, that switched to rain, then back to snow around midnight that was predicted to bring up to 4”.    We barely got enough snow to cover the grass, but we had ice on the roads that cancelled school once again.

A dusting of snow is predicted for tonight, but freezing rain and more snow head this way tomorrow and into Wednesday.   Our temps are to remain in the 30’s all week.

Traffic is paralyzed in south-central Wisconsin.  Roads are snow-packed and slippery.  Snow plows cannot begin to keep up with the rate of snowfall.  Husband said that we have at least 5 inches of snow on the ground and 3 more inches is predicted tonight.  Did our grocery shopping this morning and got gas for the snowblower.  We have nowhere we have to be until our appointment with the accountant to file our taxes next week.  Time to throw an extra blanket on the couch, brew some herbal tea, and watch some good movies.

@deepwaterdotter, I have a family member in Beloit this week. It’s 75-80 here. She is not happy.

We need not only rain but colder weather on the West coast.

The cold  helps keep the insect pests under control.  With only warm nights, they proliferate too much.  Like bark beetles.  And snails.  And on and on.

And moths and possibly mosquitoes would come.   Good point, @GingerPeach
