@Kachina624 wrote:@Meowingkitty. @pdlinda. Did it ever cool off in Phoenix? At my house just NW of Albuquerque we had 21° the past two mornings. Days have been chilly too.
Yes, it's finally in the 50's in the mornings and the highs are in the 80's.

Never say never. Try living in S. CA. No rain, high gas prices, taxes, fees, fines, inundated by illegal immigrants, etc.

@Puzzle Piece YEAH! I lived in Santa Monica for 25 years.....and then there was the '94 Quake......
The building where I worked was red-flagged, so I came over to PHOENIX -- TO LOOK FOR A JOB! Di

Parts of Nebraska have been in "extreme draught" this year, too. News of dried up crops and water shortages has been on frequently. In Lincoln, we were in the extreme draught category most of the summer and into the early fall. We were fortunate enough to have some rainfall in September which brought our county out of that dangerous draught category and enabled us to return to regular use of water. However, most of us were in the habit of using the scheduled days only and still do . . . which continues to save our precious resource: water.

It's amazing how things can change every few months. In Minneapolis, we had flooding late winter followed by very little rain which caused a severe drought this summer. And then the rains came.
We were driving in a very familiar neighborhood the other day and I was marveling how beautiful it was. The streets are winding and the trees, while dropping their leaves were so colorful--yellow and orange and red.
At first I couldn't put my finger on why it looked so different and then I got it--everyone's lawn was a beautiful vibrant shade of green from all the rain!

@gidgetgh wrote:As of tomorrow, it will be exactly two months since I have gotten any rain at all at my house in north metro Atlanta. It last rained on Sept. 2nd. And no rain in sight for at least the next week.
I would post more, but I can't think of anything else to say. 2 months.
I hear ya @gidgetgh . NOLA metro area is in "severe drought" conditions with no end in sight. This has always been such a damp, rainy climate and now a complete turnaround. My plants are suffering.

Ours finally came early early morning on Monday and rained all day long here in NE Texas. Left us with highs in the fifties and lows in thirties all week since.
Back up to the lower '80's next week but mercy it as been wonderful. Monday was dark, cloudy, and rainy was such a thing of beauty. I hope you all get blessed soon.

Yes, it most certainly did!! The temps are absolutely HEAVENLY! Took my first long walk SINCE MAY yesterday and will walk again today. I think we're in the low 80's which is simply ideal here in Phoenix! NO RAIN ON THE HORIZON HOWEVER!!

@Puzzle Piece Yes, I know....my daughter and her family live there. Suffice it to say, they come here to Phoenix. I don't go there very often, for the reasons you mention.

@fthunt wrote:First snow today in central NY - Nov 1 gropple and then big fat flakes mixed w/rain. Here we go again................(spelling ?)
@fthunt That's a new one on me! Thanks for the word and explanation. Accu Weather calls it "graupel" and explains it thusly:
While snow, sleet and freezing rain are familiar precipitation types to most people, one that may be lesser known is graupel, also known as snow pellets.
Graupel forms when snowflakes are coated with a layer of ice. Graupel is typically white and opaque.
I guess for Scrabble, you would have to use the dictionary spelling, but I've seen it spelled both ways while searching.
