We Lost Power For Over 4 Hrs.

It started raining about 3 this afternoon. No big storm just rumbles of thunder and a nice steady much needed rain.

Rain stopped about 4, skies started to clear and bingo, power went out. Seems a llitle town 15 miles from here had a whale of a storm and a substation was damaged. 1/2 of our township was without power and the township with the storm was 100% out.

DD was bringing supper home anyway so I twiddled my thumbs until she got home a little before 7.  We ate and had a rousing game of Scrabble by flashlight.

Juice came back on about 8:15 or so.

3 months ago almost to the day we had no power for 2 and 1/2 days due to ice storm.

Man we lose power alot.

Just imagine how it is going to be when everybody has electric cars and the power grid is overloaded and a car battery is going to cost us about $15,000.  Ouch.

@CrazyKittyLvr2 ,you're lucky you got the rain, at least. I'm in east central Pa. and got nothing in my location. My sister lives about 15 miles north and she got the rain. BTW, how's the kitten?

@catter70   The kitten is good.  We put a few cat toys on the porch for her, one was a crinkle pad.  She loves that darn thing. Jumps on it, rolls around on it. With all the windows open we can hear her going to town with it. She likes the little balls that make noise when she hits it.

She has everything a kitty would want.  Mom is there, so is her maternal grandmother, food, fresh water, toys, comfy places to lounge and sleep, and shade from the sun.

@Nonametoday  Too many EV's is not one of my concerns.  Right now they are still more curiosity and rich people's toys almost rather than everyman's transportation.

You can pretty much subtract from possible owners the huge percentage of us who park on the street because a garage is not part of our life already.  I'll think EV right after I have the garage where I can charge one.

One time I lost power for 4 days in the early spring when temperatures were still freezing. Nothing electrical worked, of course, except my laptop and wifi router b/c I had those plugged into a large power bank. But that only lasted for less than a few hours. My dear friend helped me out with his gas generator and saved the day!...or 4 days I should say.

Lessons were learned that day. It was a big wake-up call so I took action and bought my very own gasoline generator and I also bought a larger power bank for my wifi router, laptop and VoIP phone. The larger power bank will give me power for 72 hours straight, for my electronics, plus the thing can recharge my cell phone and tablet if I needed them. Staying connected to the internet for me is very important. It's a source for vital information about power outages and other critical news info. Now I have peace of mind.

Re: We Lost Power For Over 4 Hrs.

We lost power 1 week after Sandy; that was the worst. A couple of months ago, we lost power 12 hours and the town evacuated our building. Today, in northern NJ, we have a water advisory ( going on 2 days) due to E. coli in our drinking water. I’ll be looking out the window for locusts.

Re EVs, you won’t need a garage, there are charging stations already in the next town. In NJ, condominiums (where I live), I read it will eventually be mandated that charging stations be installed. We live in an all electric building and already have an energy shortage we’ve been trying to address. I know that we would not be able to handle the extra burden at present. They need to find solutions before mandating EVs. & work on infrastructure. The power grids can not take it; we see what happens with AC & increased demand.

A few years ago, after a bad spring storm that took down trees and power lines, we were without power for 4 days.  Some in the area were without power for over a week.  I worked from home and I did not want to commute to the office so I stayed in a hotel for 3 days.

Re: We Lost Power For Over 4 Hrs.

Last September power was off for a mere 3 hours but when it came back on, no water.  Whatever happened fried the well pump. That was a Tuesday night at 7pm.  We finally got water on Fri afternoon.  Luckily it wasn't freezing or really hot but no water sucks.

April  2022 was the ice storm, 2.5 days.

There are basically 2 power companies in the area. One is a co-op (what we have now)  Where we lived before we had the other company.  In the 27 yrs. we were in that house on the other side of town I can count on one hand the times the power went out. The lights never even flickered during the blizzard of 1993.

Now, every couple of months it's out for several hours, with or without bad weather.

I agree.  EV's rare and the people who do have them have them as a second car they can brag about.  Not everyone has a garage.  A whole lot of us street park or park in our driveways or park in condo/apartment parking lots.  EV's will never happen for big percent of car owners.
