Re: Watching TV Makes Me Wistful

@hckynut I wish I could give you 100 ❤️s for your post. I feel exactly the same way. I just had my 73rd birthday yesterday and I don't intend to spend my remaining years hiding under the bed. We all die sooner or later; we have no contol over when or how. I prefer to die on my feet rather than live on my knees.

Geez louise. It's just a serious virus, not WWIII. Go ahead and go to the store. No bravery needed.

Re: Watching TV Makes Me Wistful

[ Edited ]

Everything could be a lot worse.

Dratts, I didn't take notes:

Just recently I saw a segment on TV.  The very last few minutes.  A talk show?

A male person was being interviewed.  Some sort of a life stragetist, I guess.

He suggested writing numbers from one to five across a page.

  1      2     3     4     5

Under number 5, write the worst possible thing that can ever happen to you.

Then, each day list something that is happening right now that is bothering you.  It could be anything that is 'irking' you.  Place it under one of the numbers.

(From one to five..........five being the absolute worst scenario. )

This practice is meant to give us some perspective on our present problem(s).

I've been doing this, and it really helps.

That's why my first sentence was 'Everything could be a lot worse'.

Keeping various problems in perspective could be helpful now-a-days.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

Re: Watching TV Makes Me Wistful

Last time I watched a movie, I kept wanting to shout at the people "put on a mask!" As if actually seeing people has become abnormal.

Sigh.

But I've had a lot more years (a lot) the old way, and only months this way, so I trust I'll readjust.

The closer we get to a vaccine, the better things will get. I get impatient as well. But gratitude and patience are our friends. I'm hoping our country goes beyond normal and slips into better - for climate, quality of life and society in general, etc. Staying hopeful.

@KaySD Me too!  If I've been grocery shopping or at work, then turn on the TV, I'm startled at first if they are standing close together.

I'm 20 years your junior and I feel the same way. My parents both died at an early age so I fear I won't live to be your age. I'm a homebody so this staying home thing is easy for me but even I cannot stay home constantly terrified of people.

Re: Watching TV Makes Me Wistful

I have been thinking the same thing.

Will we ever be places and see people's faces again? Will we ever shake a hand, give a hug to someone we aren't really close to? Ever go to a cash register and not look through a plexiglass shield?

Will we ever feel the world is the same place is was back in January 2020?

I'm guessing the answer to most of this is probably not!

Re: Watching TV Makes Me Wistful

I just finished watching the David Byrne concert on HBO. This was filmed before the pandemic. The audience was packed together, all the singers, musicians, and dancers were in the audience high fiving people, mingling, having a great time. I have to wonder, will we ever get back to that?
