Watching THE CHRISTMAS STORY

Ralphies mom tells him "you love red cabbage Ralphie". (He doesn't).

I laughed. I use to hate when my mom would say similar to me when we had_______

her meatloaf.

I love my meatloaf, hers...not so much. She used crackers & it seemed soggy to me.

Did you ever go through that?

Fate whispers to her, "You cannot withstand the storm." She whispers back, "I am the storm."

Re: Watching THE CHRISTMAS STORY

Right now I have Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on with their nice music and the fireplace with the dogs and cats. Will probably watch some of the "Christmas Story" as it is a favorite of DH. He says he never had a BB gun but can relate a lot of it to his childhood. He even says that's how you dealt with bullies in those days, and he had a Captain midnight decoder ring. The messages were things like "help your Mother do the dishes" and such.

I've been watching on and off since last night. It's such a sweet movie, and so funny. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all!

Re: Watching THE CHRISTMAS STORY

No BB guns around, but my dear father was always warning us "don't poke your eye out."

For some reason, it was a big worry!  He'd be pleased to see we are now seniors who never poked an eye out.  This movie brings back so much childhood stuff, doesn't it?  Such a great show.

"Show me how the piggies eat..."

I have been watching this since it was an unknown and most folks had never heard of the movie.  I found it endearing and hilarious and I watch it every year.  Jean Shepherd's narration is wonderful.

The days of department store Santas is a wonderful memory.
