I purchased a Speed Queen washer & dryer a few months ago and I LOVE them. It's a top loading washer with an agitator and both machines have manual dials rather than electronic controls. I couldn't be happier with my choice.

We recently purchased a Speed Queen Washer and Dryer. Commericial Grade, I think they were $799 each. Expected life span is 25 years. I am done with the other brands. Purchased a Bosch Dishwasher. Tired of applianes not lasting more than 5-8 years.

Another vote for Speed Queen here! Have had mine for a couple years now and couldn't be happier. Had Whirlpool Cabrio prior-was suppose to be the top of the line as well as the best on the market. Cost us more than any other washer/dryer we ever owned and died in 7 years after purchase. Hopefully at my age, if the Speed Queen lasts 25 years, I have purchased my last washer and dryer in my life.

@kitcat51 wrote:Another Speed Queen recommendation. The top loader with knob controls has a center agitator & actually fills up with water, it's the best washer I've ever had. If interested get move on as is being discontinued at the end of 2017 by government regulations. I had a front loader & hated it, smelled awful & the silly small amount of water it used never got anything clean & the electronic board had to be repaired twice. Check out the Speed Queen website, great info on all the washers available. The matching dryer is a winner too.
@kitcat51 Thanks for letting me know. I just bought a Speed Queen dryer yesterday and am planning on getting one later this winter. I will talk to them when they deliver it next week to ask them about the ones going away. I may have to get it sooner than later.
I have to say, while getting things out of the Speed Queen dryer, the clothes were so hot I had to drop them on the floor.

Yes to the Speed Queen. It's an excellent, excellent washer. Made in the US. Not a lot of plastic parts. And you don't need to buy one with all the electronic bells and whistles. And the Speed Queen has an agitator.
When our 25+ year old Maytag bit the dust last year, we replaced it with a Speed Queen and I have never regretted the decision. It does such a good spin cycle that it actually decreased drying time in the dryer.
I love the Speed Queen and can't recommend it highly enough. (And did I mention that it's made in the U.S.??)

I'm going to have a very difficult time getting used to the new HE machines. I have an old machine with a center agitator. Do they even still make those?
Any thoughts, experiences, recommendations would be very much apprecited. TIA
SPEED QUEEN! I asked this question a few weeks ago, the posters recommended Speed Queen, I bought one and LOVE it! I believe 2017 is the last year they will be making the good old-fastioned kind that uses adequate water. It is a top loader and has an agitator. Costs a bit more but I personally am glad I got one before they quit making this kind.
I had a Kenmore, top loader, HE with NO agitator and I hated it. It was still working but I didn't like it, only had it for 5 years. It kept going off-balance and the loads took forever --over an hour!
Very happy with my no-nonsense, work-horse Speed Queen washing machine.

@Sue98, Last night I saw advertisement for washing machine with agitator so they are still being made. I believe it was a Kenmore.
