Re: Washing machine recommendations please!

While looking, check out the top loaders at Sears, the Kenmore brand.

The 400 Series or 500 Series, etc.

All mechanical, nothing electronic.

You will pay more for electronic and you might even get a great warranty but they always fail at some point.

My Kenmore 400 Series is 15 years old and in great shape.   I've only needed 1 repair and I bought the part and did it myself.

When I first purchased it, I had a bigger family, now it's just me but I don't regret the purchase and when it goes, I'll get another one just like it.

Thanks Marp for that tip on selecting the fabric softener setting. I also own a GE with center agitator. Bought it last year and am pretty happy with it. I like being able to control the water level to my liking.

Another Speed Queen recommendation. The top loader with knob controls has a center agitator & actually fills up with water, it's the best washer I've ever had. If interested get move on as is being discontinued at the end of 2017 by government regulations. I had a front loader & hated it, smelled awful & the silly small amount of water it used never got anything clean & the electronic board had to be repaired twice. Check out the Speed Queen website, great info on all the washers available. The matching dryer is a winner too.

@kitcat51  Thanks for letting me know.  I just bought a Speed Queen dryer yesterday and am planning on getting one later this winter.  I will talk to them when they deliver it next week to ask them about the ones going away.  I may have to get it sooner than later.

Your welcome Vabelle 35. Speed Queen use to offer 2 models with the dial controls now they only offer 1 & it will be discontinued at the end of 2017. I prefer the dial over the electronic board because I live in the country & have problems with power surges & outages. All the Speed Queens are built to last so whatever you choose I'm sure you will be pleased, Enjoy!

Re: Washing machine recommendations please!

consumer reports just did a washer review of both front and top load washers.

Speed Queen is rated #1 out of all the washer made. this is top loader washer

LG is rated as one of the better front an top loader washers on mass market, but breakage is not any better than all other mass market produced washers.

CR can not recommend  Frigidaire front loaders and Samsung HE top loaders can not be recommended at this time.

Please get CR August 2017 issue pages 12-17. it has come great info
