@songbird

One more thing comes to mind .... if you go to various retailers and have done your research, consider this ....  Use a rebate site, order the model you want online and have the retailer deliver it.

Be sure to use a rebate site to get a nice rebate ... Rakuten, Mr Rebates or my favorite, TopCashBack.   Even a measly 6% rebate on a $700 appliance is $42!  I can't remember what it was now, but I once bought something from Lowe's when the rebate percentage for the day was 10%.

I just love getting a good rebate ....   Woman LOL

The front loaders don't seem to clean the clothes very well.  What it's good for is the control of the water.  You don't have to have a lot of water for the front loader (like you have to with the top loader)  At any rate, so far it has to be a top loader. Oh, and an agitator. I can't seem to find a Speed Queen.  We tried at Lowes, but couldn't find them.  Lowes is kind of crummy.  Some of the models have free shipping, some of them don't.   Our dryer by the way, is still running.  20 years later.  Great dryer.  Whirlpool.

@songbird  If you aren't aware, GE washing machines are now made by Haier, they bought GE in 2016.

For Speed Queen washers , read post #14.  It's a high end product, it's not sold at big box stores.

@Marp  I'm not sure what your post meant.  LOL

I was only responding to folks who feel bending down to load/unload a front loader washing maching still have to bend down to load/unload the dryer.

My question about dryers that load from the top was tongue-in-cheek.

I recently replaced my 20 year old Kenmore washer with a new GE top loader, and I am satisfied.  A repairman had told me previously to make sure to get one with a metal drum (the plastic drums crack), and to get one with less electronic bells and whistles, as those need repair more often.  He recommended GE and said LG and Samsung models were poor.  He also said top loaders were more trouble-free than front loaders.  I intended to buy mine from Home Depot, but they were back-ordered, so I got the same model at the same price from Lowe's.  I got free delivery, but had to pay a small fee to take the old machine away.  There will probably be some washers on sale soon, for the Labor Day holiday.  Enjoy your new machine!

I owned  1 Samsung product a dryer, Lousy product, break downs a dime a dozen with samsung. my was fix and repair weekly.

I also owned a speed queen washer, great washer, lousy rinsing product, don't know if speed queen has improved the rinses in the washers,

I have owned a front loader washer, i love my front loader, my front loader is a 5 jet rinse washer, can wash clothes in 35 minutes full load . My washer is an LG 4000 model. my clothes come out white and spotless. I do not use liquid products in my washer, powder products only. for me powder washes out cleaner and you get to measure exactly how much you need to use. I use anywhere from 1 TABLEspoon to 1/4 cup of powder wash soap to clean my clothes spotless. the pods of liquid wash soap has to much soap for many of the small loads you can now wash in the washing machines now a days. I have used liquid laundry soap that I measure out, and still got way to much laundry soap for my clothes, I just find powder better quality wash product over liquid ,

hope you find a washer that you like and will fill your needs.

@songbird   Top loaders are the b est with the agitator.  As long as you have gentle cycle features and other features you will be happy.  I washed with the front load for many months (Maytag) in an apt. I lived.  I never thought my clothes came out clean enough.  Good luck in your search.  Whirlpool has excellent products too.

Or refrigerators, ranges, ovens or dishwashers.  BTW, I once had a Samsung TV go bad in 8 or 9 months.

I like my commercial Maytags. No fancier than they need to be and I have a good extended warranty with Lowes. Having tried both types, I prefer not having a central agitator and having a top load. It's easier to throw clothes in. But that's just a personal preference.
