I went through the drive thru at Dunkin Donuts the other day to get a coffee.  When I got up to the window to pay, she told me the car in front of me paid.

It was only a couple of bucks, but it made me smile.  So I paid for the person behind me.

I'm sorry but I think this is the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. First of all I seriously doubt that the clerk at the Mc Donalds window does anything with that money that is left but pockets it 90% of the time. And who is to say you aren't giving your money to buy a coffee for a multimillionaire? I prefer to direct my donations to where they are needed. My random acts of kindness are much more likely going to go to homeless or terribly poor in my community or if I would see a soldier I may buy his/her meal.

I resent the idea that every McDonald's worker is dishonest. I also don't care for calling someone's actions, "the stupidest thing".  Not so kind, was it?

I thought she meant assigning  a random acts of kindness day was stupid.  Dunno.  But ITA with you about the McD stereotyping is wrong.

While discussing various groups to donate (or not) to, a friend of mine said  (paraphrasing) "in the end it's not about where the money ends up, particularly if the donation isn't a large one, it's about what was in your heart when you gave it - you have no control over what others do with it".

I thought he made a good point.

I think it's a great point.  Do good deeds quietly and without fanfare and don't try to control what happens after that. Smiley Happy

I'm not the type to toot my own horn. My mother would always say to braggers "I like me, who do you like?"

Thanks, didn't know that.  But in my case I practice... Pay IT Forward ... everyday.

Often one or more of our groups go into assisted living centers and put on a square dance demo.  When we walk in the audience looks "almost dead."  When we walk out we have given new life and brought our music and our excitment to them.  They are young again and beg us to come back.  What a feeling!  We have given a gift.. but they have returned more in exchange.

If you have a talent, it's a wonderful idea to share it at a senior center.

This is how twisted I am - if I went to pay and was told someone ahead of me paid, I would either tell the clerk to keep it for the next one and pay for mine, or say, thank you and move on.  I don't get the point of someone paying and you are still paying.  With that said, I honestly try to be very observant as I go about my day to offer help to whoever I see needs it.  Like someone here mentioned, even if it's reaching for products in the grocery store, or unloading the groceries.  I'm someone who is a lot more generous to others than anyone is to me.  I actually like it that way since I'm so independent.
