Anyone doing simple start that knows where I can get a list of BRAND NAME foods to buy that fit into program? Or have an item that they know works? Thank You.

Re: WW Simple Start Question?

Some items I learned about in my YMCA program were :

Special K crackers - 30 of them are only 2 gm of fat - I count out 30 into a small bowl and snack on them while watching TV.

Low fat vanilla wafers - 2gm of fat in 8 cookies BUT they do have sugar - I was only counting fat gms so the sugar wasn't a big issue for me.

Sherbet instead of ice cream - but again you have sugar. Anyway, though it is way better than ice cream for you. Where we stay at camp in the summer the big evening entertainment is going for ice cream and I don't want to have to be the ones who can't go when everyone else does so I get sherbet instead.

cherrios - one cup is only 2gm of fat.I use 2% milk - I don't like skim - and 1 c of milk is 5gm so cereal and milk are only 7 gms which is good for a meal.I can actually have twice that.

Graham crackers instead of cookies are lower in fat content too.

Bagel for breakfast has only 2 gm of fat and I eat it with just smuckers simply fruit spread (no butter) and that has no fat gms.

When you are eating things with sugar or fat content the most important thing is to regulate the amount you eat. For instance one scoop of sherbet, in a cup not a cone. Count out the cookies or crackers you can eat and put them in a dish - do not eat out of the box. We have been making air popped popcorn here at camp in the evenings which is good for me and my DH puts all sorts of a variety of seasonings on his because he says it doesn't have enough flavor. So far basil is his favorite , next is dill.I like mine with just some salt - and not a lot of that.

Re: WW Simple Start Question?

I don't want to ruin this thread but I don't get how sherbet is so much better than ice cream.

A 1/2 cup of sherbet only has 1.5 grams of fat but 29 grams of carbs, 23 of which are sugar. That is astronomical.

By comparison, a 1/2 cup of Edie's Slow Churned Vanilla ice cream has 3.5 grams of fat, 15 grams of carbs, 12 of which are sugar. Still high in sugar but much better than sherbet.

Also, aren't you counting how many grams of fat you eat a day?

That's not really all that helpful to the OP because WW figures points differently. You don't just look at grams of fat.

I am ONLY counting fat grams and I clearly stated that in my post, adding that some of these also have sugar that she would need to take into consideration. Try reading a post before you attack it.

Re: WW Simple Start Question?

WW doesn't take sugar into consideration either when figuring out the points of a food.

OP, I don't know what to tell you about specific brands of foods to eat. Of course WW promotes their own snack foods which I never bought because they are so expensive.

You can certainly fill up on fruits and vegetables as those are free (except of course for corn and potatoes).

I don't follow the new program. I still follow 123 Success as I just don't care for the new program.

You may want to post this in the health/wellness forum. There are some very helpful ladies there who have had great success on the program.

Re: WW Simple Start Question?

If you buy Complete Food Companion book at Weight watchers, it has the point count for a ton of brand name products. Those shown with a green triangle are power foods that fit into Simple Start. You can also stay after meetings to get help from the Weight Watcher leader or support staff. Good luck to you!

Re: WW Simple Start Question?

buyornot -

I looked up what "Simple Start" was for you. It seems to be an introductory time to get you used to eating food that is good for you. Pretty much so you can develop a pattern of eating that way, as opposed to perhaps how most people usually eat.

You know, fresh and natural for the most part.

In my experience "brand names" are usually processed food. You might want to get away from that and more into fruits and veg.

There's a saying, something like "If your grandmother or great grandmother didn't eat it, you shouldn't either."

Anyway! Good luck on your endeavor Smile
