Re: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY????

@cowboy sam

You must stay as strong and determined as that groundhog in order to win (or he must die)!  Digging is what groundhogs do and it is hard to discourage them once they pick a good spot for their burrow.  You must build a very strong castor oil odor in that area to drive the rodent away.

I would try saturating around and inside that hole first before resorting to rocks.  Be prepared to do this for awhile or until you realize the rodent must die!

I am in a war with 2 young robins that want to build nests on top of my sunshades on my front porch.  I've torn down 6 early builds of nests in 2 days, and they are still trying to win.  About every other year I have to deal with determined robins or wrens trying to build on the porch lights or the sunshades.  The porch is only 4 ft wide and everyone enters thru the front door, so birds raising a family in this busy area is not a good idea.

Trying to get up the energy to go to my parents' grave to decorate it.  It's about 40 mi away.

Didn't feel well this morning. It's a beautiful day and I want to savor it. Maybe this afternoon.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY????

Temp is expected to reach 81 today with thunderstorms this afternoon. Catching up on things after the holiday weekend. Doing laundry, putting some books on hold, and cleaning out fridge. It seems like this month has flown by.

Have a nice day everyone.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY????

@RedTop

Thanks.Heart..

I have patience  with that pesky critter...2 days ago  i filled its hole back in with dirt  and then i

I poured 4 oz. of the castor oil   without water added to it all around the dirt !

i checked later..it had started to dig a bit of dirt..

and  it hasn't been backSmiley LOL

I need to buy more castor oil  in case it digs another spot in yard.

Good luck with your robins!

Re: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY????

@cowboy sam

Sounds like you are making some progress!  Just keep watching in case the groundhog moves to another side for his entrance.  Young or old, groundhogs don't give up too easy once they decide on where they want to live.

I haven't seen the robins since Monday night, nor found the start of another nest on the porch or near the house.  I cannot make sense of the fact I am surrounded by mountains covered in thousands of trees, and a bird picks my porch as the place to hatch eggs?

More rain is expected today, but then clear skies and high 70's expected into the middle of next week.  Friday will be 2 weeks  since my grass was mowed, which doesn't actually bother me, but my daughter and brother are proudly keeping their grass nice and neat in comparison to mine.  I have 2 major wet areas that my grass guy learned real quick have to be avoided after heavy rainfall.  His big no turn mower made a real mess in those areas last year that looked awful for weeks.

Re: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY????

@RedTop

Yep..critter returned after a couple of days  and dug all  dirt  out  of the deep hole...as you cautioned me it might return!

I am patient  and determinedSmiley LOL

My neighbor lady thinks in so many words to forget it  and leave critter be..But".if "it was in her yard her dh  would also do do his best to send it packing!Smiley LOL

 I ordered the regular castor oil for constipationSmiley LOL  Amazon had a set of 3  ( 4oz.  in each  bottle")    and i ordered 2 sets....will be here from Amazon Sunday!

So, i will be ready to use slowly  all 6 bottles not all at once  but over in time if needed on dirt and in critters deep hole in ground!

I checked out also on Amazon what to buy to get rid of them...and what they offered the reviews were not good.Smiley Sad...

So i decided i needed the "pure stinky" medical  human type...and not for soft skin or hair,etc..Smiley LOL

Thanks for your advice🤗🥰

Re: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY????

ps

for those you  that might not know...

groundhogs "do not" like the smell of castor oil!Smiley LOL

So they  "won't" drink  or eat it   but hopefully  the smell from the castor oil it  will    find another home somewhere else   but not in my yard!

It's hole is very close to where my grass gets mowed...and if mower guy gets too close ,,,,well i don't want him  hurt or riding mower damaged  as its a wide deep hole!

This is why critter needs to leave!
