Re: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY????

@viva923

I feel sure you and your husband will be fine after his longtime job ends, and he will find part time work if he is interested.  Jobs are out there for retired people looking for just a little extra income and something to get them out of the house.

Having the VA health benefits is a major plus for the 2 of you, and eliminates one of the major concerns most people have when they retire.

With no house payment, no car payments, no big bills hanging over your head, it's time to relax and enjoy this stage of life!  Settle down and just breathe!

Re: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY????

thanks Red Top for the encourging words.

dh is just looking for something basic. no weekends, a 9-5 type job Mon to Friday not necessary those hours just something to keep him useful and get him out of the house. our credit cards were cut up long ago, we use 1 major card for anytime we have to use those check out machines. safer mode,if any problems we just call the bank they handle the problem. dh did work fast food manager when he got out of the military for 2 years,he lost his hair from the stress of that job, it paid the bills, but as soon as something else opened he grabbed at it. we just can't do much once he leaves this job but i know dh he will be out pounding the pavement once this job ends.

We navigated retirement too @viva923 . In my case, I was able to quit at age 59 because of a severance package they offered long term employees. My DH continued to work and carried our health/dental insurance. Now he is retired too. I think you'll be fine, and you are just like us in being debt free. We still give presents and take short driving vacations - we are happy and comfortable, but not at all extravagant. I think you and your husband will do just fine.

@cakers- has not posted on this thread or anywhere on the forum since the end of january. she has been on this thread for over 4 years, since it began. hoping she is ok and will let us know how things are going.
so many here on the general forum, are navigating difficult family and medical issues. i do feel for them all.Heart
i read here everyday, but only sign in to post rarely- or i'd be on here for hours at a time, inserting my opinions all over the place. no body needs that.
not much going on here as usual, which is how i prefer it. am trying to avoid doing things i have to, but really don't want to face doing- surprisingly that takes up alot of time.
awaiting a storm here in NJ- predictions are confused, so will have to see how this nor'easter affects us after it's over. the small amount of snow we got this winter so far, will lead to very dry fire conditions for the summer if we don't have a very rainy spring. but then that will mean flooding for some areas here. folks can't win.
i see so many others suffering now from too much snow, here we have been so fortunate to rarely have extremes. if only the weather would just be sensible all the time, all over, and not give us more worries that we don't need. that's not too much to ask, imo.

** hope to hear from @cakers...and my best to all the posters here.
i can't think of anything i accomplished today- ''midsomer murders'' british tv show has been running on 'ovation channel' here all day, in the background of my doing nothing. if i ever do anything, i'll post it!Woman WinkHeart

Re: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY????

There are days when I don't do much @shosh. Right now, I'm spring cleaning even though we have over a foot of snow on the ground. I'll probably go over to the decluttering thread next.

It is unfortunate we haven't heard from Cakers. She always makes a point to say hi to those who read but don't care to participate. People sometimes get mad when a poster announces they are taking a break from these boards, assuming they are upset. However, I don't object because at least we know why they are gone. When someone is dealing with struggles, we have no way of knowing if something bad happened. I just say a little prayer and hope to see the missing person's name on a thread.

@AuntG- yes, thanks, i agree....

Heart if folks just have too much going on to add this board to their busy days- and/or they don't want to be writing about certain things on here at this time- then we just hope the folks we are fond of are doing ok, and that sometime we will be able to hear that from them.

many years ago when i first started posting, i wrote alot back and forth to a couple posters over the first few weeks. i was spending way too much time, and had to back off- so i told them i enjoyed our talks but had to be on here alot less, so they'd know that i wasn't mad at them or something- and then a few other posters had to ridicule me for my 'big announcement', as who would even care if i posted or not, who did i think i was, etc...
Woman TongueWoman Frustrated    i always wonder when i see that attitude, if they get away with acting like that in 'real life'- am glad i don't have to really deal with them, who needs it!

cleaning and de cluttering too- yah i could use that here. our nor'easter was a bust, just a coating of snow, but the strong wind persists tonight.

Cat Embarassed if i can ask, what state are you in, with a foot of snow? i envy that, as long as the roads are clear so its safe for everyone- then i prefer to be hibernating with the snow all around the house.

Smiley Indifferent  for today- i am 'doing' a migraine, and tonight i'm going to enjoy watching ''sister boniface mysteries'', ''last tango in halifax'', and ''silent witness'' on one of my pbs tv stations. i reccomend them all. they are mostly reruns, but that's ok- except the one 'new to me' show suddenly killed off a great main character last week- the British shows do that alot and i don't like it, tho it keeps you guessing. Smiley SurprisedSmiley Sad

Re: WHAT ARE YOU DOING TODAY????

@viva923, I read your post and want to tell you to please have faith that things will settle down for you & your husband. This may be a "bumpy" time for you but it will calm down. Your husband has a strong work ethic and background. He will have no problem finding a new job. You have been very carefully budgeting all these years plus you are fortunate to have medical care taken care of. My very best to you ... ❤️
