WARNING - SPAM SOCIAL SECURITY EMAIL

There's a spam social security notice going out .... do not reply to it.

If you see it ... hopefully in your spam mail .... the return email address has the word "apparel" in it.

Thanks for the warning @Tinkrbl44 ! Apparently there is also one from 'microsoft', microsoft-update[.]support
And one from A...... about a recall that takes over your account.

There's always spam from all those places @Tinkrbl44 and @We rescue cats . For years we have had them from the SS department as well as many others. Most frequently we get them from USPS or UPS stating our packages could not be delivered due to blah, blah, blah.

A person must always be diligent these days before responding to any emails or phone calls. Everyone, always be wary and double check the source from the actual company, business or department they say they are calling or emailing from.

Do you check your spam mail?  I never even think of checking it.  I let it do its job

I check my spam folder, don't know why but sometimes things I don't consider spam are in there. Thanks @Tinkrbl44

Re: WARNING - SPAM SOCIAL SECURITY EMAIL

I received a letter from the supposedly IRS (Austin TX.) address stating I have to prove my identity via Scanning my Driver's Licence or US Passport to receive my refund or  to have have it credited to my account. My preference is a credit as indicated on my tax filing. There was even a QR code to use a phone? ? Wierd? Scam or not? Anyone hear of this? Identity theft is out there!

They  already have my Driver's Licence, address and Bank Account where SS is deposited already. The State refund came in direct deposit. I like!y overpaid last year as pay in quarterly. First time a refund in  many years.

After the 15th I am going to have my Tax Preparer/Tax Accountant look  it  over as she is probably busy right now.

Re: WARNING - SPAM SOCIAL SECURITY EMAIL

Thx for the heads up @Tinkrbl44. Even though we all know we shouldn't be opening/clicking on things we're not sure of, it's always good to be reminded of scams going around.

I know it's only going to get much worse with AI so always good to err on the side of caution. And I think it's good to keep reminding each other of possible scams so that we maintain our vigilance.
