Visited Las Vegas?

My sister and I are planning a trip to the strip, October 18-21. Neither of us has visited Vegas.

Recommendations for hotels (clean, safe, nice, etc.)? We've looked at websites and vacation packages, but 'tis overwhelming! Word-of-mouth is always helpful. Recommendations for shows or activities? We like comedy, Cirque du Soleil, singing shows, etc. Thanks.
