Hi There
DH & I just returned from our first ever trip to Key West. We flew into Lauderdale, and did the drive down. Driving over 44 islands and over a 7 mile ocean bridge was something everyone should do once in their life. We stayed at the Southernmost Hotel On the Beach, it was very nice. You do not need a car in Key West, and it is a real pain to try and drive there. Walking, biking or scooters is the way to go. Key West is definately a different place, everyone marches to their own drummer, and the pace is definately laid back. I always travel with an open mind, for part of travel to me is meeting new people and experiencing how their lives are different from mine. That being said, I would definately go to the Blue Heaven for breakfast pancakes and their Bloddy Goose drinks, to Sweet Tees on Duval for Dinner, awesome Key Lime pie. For a great local restaurant, no tourists, try the Cuban food at El Siboney. While in Mallory Square, stop in and make sure to get a cookie from Mattheesons. I would recommend you do the island trolly thing, 2days of hop on hop off and it gives you a good feel for the island. Othewise, walk Duval, stop in places, talk to the locals for recommendations. And Enjoy. We loved it there.
