Not only that it is very hard to prosecute rape and many states just don't because this is not unusual. Sadly.
What I don't like is the OP making this all about her and the drama of her feelings are way over the top. OP do you live under a rock and not know this CAN happen?
That's her m.o.
It's always about her.
So why would you start on me just because I was not automatically calling this rape? She left all the details out. For all we know these two could be in a "relationship" that is condoned by the parents of the girl. I never said it was not "rape" I just was not going there until I knew the facts. I did my clerking for a criminal judge so I may have a different take on this. But to chastise me and treat me as if I am clueless is insulting.
Even if the two were in a "relationship" and the parents were hunky-dory with it, it doesn't change that facts, that by law, it was satutory rape.
If anything, it makes the parents guilty, too.
I don't care if the 19 year old comes from a "nice family" and that they go to church every Sunday, if a parent willingly allows their child, their 13 year old child to be sexually intimate with an adult, which a 19 year old is, then they can be brought up on charges too.

There is nothing positive to spin about this situation. It is a tragedy.
Was not aware you knew the girl involved and that she said she was raped.
Maybe I am confused. Aren't you the poster who said she has worked in mental health counseling for many years? Surely if you are, the devestation to a young girl at the age of 13 with an unwanted pregnancy will be a life long trauma and you already know that.
This is a tragedy and the first thing her family should be doing is going to the police to make a report. A 19 year old boy having relations with a 13 year old child is punishable by law. It is a crime, first and foremost.
Nope not me that is way off base.
Let me refresh your memory. You posted numerous times that you phone is always on because you work in Manhattan and are on call in your job which is in the Mental Health Field. You have also posted previously that you were a counselor. I remember it because it sounded like you had a difficult job. Numerous times you have posted this and I also remember your replies to Rainbows and Roses aka ilovehummingbirds.
Let me refresh you I never once said I work in the health field. EVER. I work for an International Company in legal and Finance that I am on call because of my job. Yes I work in Manhatten and from home and sometimes on the rare occasion over seas. But never have I said I work in Health. You assumed that from what you read I never said I was a counselor. I have coached soccer, softball and field hockey but have never ever said I was a counselor. Amazing you come up with a crazy thought so it must be right and I am somehow wrong and have to prove myself? Really?????

You are 100% right if we have all the facts but that was not my point. You missed it and went with a tirade against me because I just wanted facts instead of emotion.

No "tirade", just stating the facts of rape.

Also, sex with a 13 year old is usually considered pedophilia. Especially if the older person involved is 16 or older.
That's if such a case happened.

I profusely apologize and will try and remove my post.

I find it sad, in this day and age, that the 2 were having unprotected s*x in the first place.
A 19 yr old should know better....about various things, like unprotected sex and 13 yr olds.

Since it is not your situation, there's nothing you can do or say to them. I would completely stay out of it.

Hi everyone. I just found out some awful news and would like to talk about it. I also figure that perhaps we can share information that will be useful for others. Many of you may feel that my questions aren't your cup of tea. That's ok. When it comes to this situation, please remember that it is a serious situation and perhaps think twice before you decide to respond. It is so saddening that all my problems (and I have many) have been put on the backburner so to speak.
I recently found out that a close family member has a pregnant 13 year old daughter. I don't know all the details but I cannot convey how much my heart breaks for both of them. The man in question is 19. This is all I know. I am in complete and utter shock and don't lnow how to quite process this. I don't even know what my question is. Maybe you can offer something that will somehow make this better. What I want to say is that I have never in my life wanted to take someone out of their despair more than I have now. Thank you for listening to me😊
Yes, it's a real shocker, but keep in mind that it's NOT your problem and you shouldn't try to insert yourself in this situation. Your ONLY correct involvement is to offer support, when needed and asked for.
It's unknown if the parents knew about this girl getting involved with a 19 year old. Not only is the man at fault, but the parents also seem rather negligent, IMO. Where the heck were they, anyway?
My advice would be ... for the meantime .... MYOB. No one has asked you to get involved, have they?

I know some high schools do try to accommodate teenage mothers. This girl is 13, more than likely 7th or 8th grade. This is a case of babies having babies.
Posters can spin this any way they like but a 19 year old impregnating a 13 year old is statutory rape.
