It was very mindful of Dictionary . com to choose demure as its Word of the Year.

I like the word, although current social media usage has altered it somewhat, as always happens.

Definitely a fun word!

Great word that describes many women I have known throughout life.  I haven't been demure since childhood!!!!!

Now why do I think that word was chosen mainly by men?

Re: Very Demure

[ Edited ]

Dictionary notes that postings of the word exploded 1200%+ after its use by Tik-Tok star Jools Lebron in a viral video.

That video is hysterical and I still laugh everytime I see it!

“You see how I do my makeup for work? Very demure. Very mindful."

I love it!  I've watched it at least 30 times since the summer.  I started using very mindful, very demure in my everyday speech.  😹

From what I've read "enshi++ification" is the co-word of the year. Originally meant to describe the downhill slide of many social media apps, but appropriate for so many things these days and into the foreseeable future. See how I did that? Very mindful. Very demure.

Jools Lebron is a trans woman. 2 other trans women had coined the phrase, but Jools' video made the phrase mainstream.

She was describing how she does her makeup for work. It IS hysterical!!!!

""You see how I do my makeup for work? Very demure. Very mindful," she says in her video, which has over 1.2 million likes and 10.7 million views at the time of this writing. "I don't come to work with a green-cut crease. I don't look like a clown when I go to work. I don't do too much. I'm very mindful while I'm at work. You see how I look very presentable? The way I came to the interview is the way I go to the job. A lot of you girls go to the interview looking like Marge Simpson and go to the job looking like Patty and Selma. Not demure. I'm very modest. I'm very mindful. You see my shirt? Only a little chichi out, not my chocho. Be mindful of why they hired you. Here's your reality check, diva. What's the name you'd like me to make it out to?"

I love the word demure. It's right up there with ethereal. I'm glad they didn't choose "blurring" as their word of the year.  And I find it funny how all the YouTubers catch on to a word or phrase or even the movement and they all do it
